Winemakers, arts and crafts, and Jazz Santas at Ludwig-Beck-Platz in Lichterfelde – an advent weekend for the neighbourhood
Lichterfelde-West, in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district, is one of Berlin's quietest and most well-kept residential areas – with villas, tree-lined streets, and an active neighbourhood culture. During Advent, the central Ludwig-Beck-Platz transforms for two days into a small, curated market that consciously avoids competing with Berlin's large tourist Christmas markets, aiming instead to strengthen the local community.
The 'Wein' (wine) in the name is provided by four family wineries that have been returning for years – focusing on Rheinhessen (dry white and red wines) and Franken. Tastings and wine-by-the-glass are central. Over 80 exhibitors complement the offerings: handmade jewellery, glass upcycling, romantic fashion, ceramic tableware, crocheted ornaments (proceeds go to an educational initiative in Kenya), and knitted accessories made from merino and silk.
On the small stage at the square, the Jazz Santas perform, a Berlin ensemble in Santa costumes who combine New Orleans jazz with Christmas standards. The programme is accompanied by the 'Christmas Elephant Jochen', an improvisation performance. Between sets, roasted almonds, chestnuts, and crêpes from the food stalls provide culinary delights, and the honey comes from beekeepers in Berlin-Lichtenrade.
The organiser is the non-profit association Family & Friends e.V., led by Claudia Scholz. The association sees itself as a neighbourhood initiative that curates events whose proceeds flow into local and international social projects.
The 2026 edition of WEINachten am Ludwig-Beck-Platz follows the proven two-day format. Stalls around the square open from late morning on Saturday and Sunday. The mix of a Christmas wine market, curated arts and crafts, and a stage programme forms the hallmark of the event.
The stalls feature glass upcycling installations, handmade silver and fashion jewellery, romantic fashion and evening wear, ceramic tableware and decorative pieces, crocheted ornaments from a project supporting education in Kenya, and knitted accessories made from merino and silk. For food, roasted almonds, chestnuts, crêpes, and honey from Berlin-Lichtenrade dominate.
