Christmas magic on the Alter Markt

The Westersteder Winterdorf is Westerstede's Christmas market and has been one of the most beautiful Advent events in the Ammerland for years. The venue is the historic Alter Markt right in the city center. The event is organized by the city of Westerstede in cooperation with the Wirtschaftsforum Westerstede e.V.

2026 Edition — Five Weeks of Christmas

The 2026 edition runs from Thursday, November 26 (start of Advent) to Tuesday, December 29, 2026. Opening hours:

• Sun.–Wed.: 12 PM to 9 PM
• Thu.–Sat.: 12 PM to 10 PM

Mulled Wine, Wooden Stalls, and Children's Program

The Winterdorf offers the classic mix of a North German Christmas market:

• Wooden stalls with mulled wine, hot chocolate, apple cider punch, and non-alcoholic hot drinks
• Christmas treats: potato pancakes, bratwurst, candied almonds, gingerbread, chocolate-covered fruit
• Handicrafts: wood carvings, candles, jewelry, Christmas decorations
• Christmas carousel for children
• Children's program with craft activities, visits from Santa Claus, and interactive stations
• Advent concerts and musical walking acts on Advent Saturdays
• Illuminated fir trees and atmospheric lighting

Westerstede consistently stages the Advent season with the Winterdorf, making the Alter Markt a meeting point for families, friends, and guests from the entire region. Anyone visiting the Ammerland district during the pre-Christmas period should not miss the Winterdorf.
