Week of tradition at Burg Eisenhardt in the Fläming
The Burgfestwoche Bad Belzig is one of Brandenburg's oldest civic festivals. Since 1960, the Bad Belzig festival association has invited visitors every August to a week-long festival centered around Burg Eisenhardt – the medieval hilltop castle on a hill at the edge of the old town. In 2026, the town will celebrate the 63rd edition of this traditional Brandenburg event.
Burg Eisenhardt is the landmark of Bad Belzig and Brandenburg's largest preserved medieval fortress. Today, it houses a museum, a hotel, and a youth hostel – during the festival week, it becomes the central stage with concerts and events in the castle courtyard.
A diverse program is spread over the eight days:
The Altstadtsommer on the last weekend of August marks the conclusion. This major town festival transforms the historic old town around the market square and Bahnhofstraße into an open stage with live music, a craft market, children's activities, and street food. In 2026, the 24th edition of the Altstadtsommer will take place.
Bad Belzig is located in the Hoher Fläming – a hilly natural landscape southwest of Potsdam, known for the Burgenstraße (Castle Road), the SteinReich adventure world, and Brandenburg's largest contiguous hiking area. The state of Brandenburg and the Potsdam-Mittelmark district support the event as a cultural flagship of the region.
The 2026 Burgfestwoche begins on Saturday, August 22nd, and ends on Sunday, August 30th, with the traditional Altstadtsommer. Throughout the festival week, concerts, sports competitions, exhibitions, and social events are spread across Burg Eisenhardt, the market square, and the old town.
The detailed 2026 program will be published by the Bad Belzig festival association in the months leading up to the event on burgfestwoche.com. As in previous years, you can expect traditional program items: the big soapbox derby, table tennis tournament, stock-schießen, festival parade, concerts at the castle, and the Altstadtsommer weekend with live music and a craft market.
Full program and artist lineup will be published at burgfestwoche.com.
Many program items are free to enter. Some concerts are ticketed – details will be published with the program.
Take the regional train RE7 from Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) to Bad Belzig in about an hour, then a 10-minute walk to the old town. By car, take the A9 or A2 motorways with connections via the L88.
The complete program will be published shortly before the event starts at burgfestwoche.com. Traditional program items (sports competitions, soapbox derby, concerts) are part of the festival every year.
Combine your visit with a hike on the Burgenstraße (Castle Road) and a visit to the nearby SteinTherme Bad Belzig spa.
