Club summer festival with show dance festival on Rehbachpfad
In Dudweiler, a district of Saarbrücken — one of the most independent and largest districts of the Saarland state capital — the Heimat- und Kulturverein Dudweiler-Nord celebrates its summer festival every June. The venue is the club's grounds at Rehbachpfad 9, a charming spot on the edge of the forest that retains the character of a small garden party — despite the extensive programme.
The festival starts on Saturday at 3 p.m. with the tapping of the first keg. The patron is usually Ellen Renner, landlady of the Plauderstübchen café. This is followed by a performance from the Schalmeien- und Kulturverein Dudweiler with traditional repertoire, followed by the club's own band, „Riwwerbrings". From 7 p.m. onwards, the band „Les Saarspatzen" takes over with music from the 70s and 80s — the festival evening is considered one of the most convivial club evenings in Saarbrücken.
Sunday begins at 10 a.m. with an ecumenical service with clergy from the Protestant and Catholic parishes — a typical Saarland detail of these club festivals. At 11 a.m., the morning pint begins, and at precisely 12 p.m., the Saarland rule of thumb applies: „um 12 wird gess" (at 12, we eat): lunch with Gefillde, a Saarland speciality made from filled potato dumplings, often served with bacon, onions, and cream sauce.
The highlight of Sunday is the show dance festival starting at 1 p.m. Over the years, the festival has become a regionally and even internationally known meeting point for dance groups from Saarland and neighbouring France — carnival groups, guard dances, show dance formations, folklore groups. Several hours of stage performances and dancing.
Festival-goers are catered for with classics of Saarland club cuisine: Schwenker (charcoal-grilled steaks), Bratwurst (sausages), French fries, and cake. Beer, juice, coffee — all served by club members.
Dudweiler was an independent town until 1974 and, since the administrative reform, a district of Saarbrücken, but with a distinct sense of identity. With a good 26,000 inhabitants, it is larger than some district towns in Saarland, with its own club life, its own festivals, and its own identity. The HKV Dudweiler-Nord is one of the liveliest clubs in the district — and its summer festival is accordingly well attended.
Patron for 2026 is again Ellen Renner from Plauderstübchen. The festival Saturday focuses on Saarland club music, culminating in the 70s/80s sound of Les Saarspatzen, while the festival Sunday features church service, lunch, and the regionally renowned show dance festival.
Free admission. Food and drinks served by the club.
