Open Sunday with Autumn, Antiques and Crafts Market on Münsterplatz
The Ulmer Marktsonntag in autumn combines three market formats on one Sunday: On Münsterplatz, there's the autumn market with seasonal products, local fruit, pumpkins, regional specialties, and autumn decorations. Next to it, antique dealers display their treasures — furniture, porcelain, books, jewelry, old tools. In the pedestrian zone, craftspeople complement the offerings: pottery, jewelry, wood art, textiles, glass art, leather. You can move freely between the three formats and discover a wide range of handmade goods and antiques in one morning.
From 1 p.m., Ulm's retailers open their shops — the Marktsonntag is also an open Sunday for shopping. The combination is clever: first stroll through the market, then browse the shops, with a coffee or a small meal in the city center's eateries in between. The typical Münsterplatz atmosphere — with a view of the world's tallest church tower (Ulmer Münster, 161.53 m) — turns the shopping day into a small city experience.
Münsterplatz is Ulm's central market square, dominated by the Gothic Minster (construction period 1377–1890). On normal days, the weekly market takes place here twice a week; on Marktsonntag, the area is used intensively. Stalls, exhibitors, and open spaces extend from the Minster into the adjacent streets — Hirschstraße, Bahnhofstraße, Sterngasse.
Ulm is located on the Danube, right on the border between Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria (Neu-Ulm, east of the Danube, belongs to the Free State of Bavaria). Ulm is directly accessible by ICE train on the Stuttgart–Munich route. The city is famous for the Minster, its university, the crooked house "Schiefes Haus," and the annual Schwörmontag festival.
One day, three market formats, the entire city center: From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Ulm's city transforms into a walkable market and shopping stage. Münsterplatz becomes the main stage with autumn market stalls, antique dealers, and craftspeople.
From 1 p.m., retailers open their shops — the Marktsonntag is also an open Sunday for shopping. Cafés and restaurants occupy the squares and the pedestrian zone until the evening.
Free admission. Market goods are subject to charge depending on the stall. Cafés and restaurants in the city center are open as usual.
It's a 5-minute walk from Ulm Hauptbahnhof (ICE/IC) to Münsterplatz. By car via the A 8 (Stuttgart–Munich, Ulm-West exit) or the B 19. Parking garages at the train station and in the city center.
Free admission to the market. Market goods are subject to charge. Retailers open normally from 1 p.m.
Especially recommended in beautiful autumn weather — Münsterplatz is particularly impressive in the golden October light. In case of rain, the market is still available, but the atmosphere is more subdued.
