Swabian Schlachtfest with Hüttengaudi evening — by the Music Association "Frei-Weg" in Stuttgart-Mühlhausen
The Schlachtfest of the Music Association "Frei-Weg" is one of the most traditional district festivals in Stuttgart-Mühlhausen. Every September, the district gathers in the Turn- und Versammlungshalle at Arnoldstr. 10 (70378 Stuttgart-Mühlhausen) for the big community festival with culinary and musical tradition. Admission is free, and the date for 2026 will be published on the association's website before the festival.
The Schlachtfest owes its name to the classic Schlachtplatten: blood sausage, liver sausage, Kesselfleisch (boiled pork), and coleslaw — a German folk food tradition that is increasingly rare in this concentrated form. In addition, there are Schnitzel, Eisbein with sauerkraut, Swabian Maultaschen, and stuffed Swabian meatloaf. In autumn, new wines and onion cakes from the season are added.
The musical highlight is the Hüttengaudi on Saturday evening: alpine folk music (Schuhplattler, Polka, Waltz), DJ with hits from Schlager and Volksrock, plus traditional costumes (Dirndl and Lederhosen). The members of the Music Association "Frei-Weg" and regional brass bands shape the program. Those who enjoy dancing will have opportunities all evening — a homage to alpine hut culture in the heart of Stuttgart.
Sunday begins at 10:30 AM with a Swabian-ecumenical family service in the hall. This is followed by Frühshoppen with regional brass bands and the continuation of the program until the early evening. Children's activities complement the family offerings.
Stuttgart-Mühlhausen is a district in the northeast of Stuttgart on the Neckar river — its historical core dates back to the Middle Ages (the Mühlhausen watermill is a landmark). With around 11,000 inhabitants, the district is traditionally strongly shaped by its associations. The Music Association "Frei-Weg" Stuttgart-Mühlhausen has been cultivating brass music tradition for decades and is one of the most active associations in the district. The Schlachtfest is one of their most important annual events.
The Music Association "Frei-Weg" Stuttgart-Mühlhausen is organizing its traditional Schlachtfest again in 2026 — likely on a September weekend. The exact date will be published on the association's website before the festival; in 2025, the festival took place on the weekend of September 17th.
The association is continuing its proven concept: Saturday evening Schlachtplatten and Hüttengaudi with alpine folk music in traditional attire; Sunday Swabian-ecumenical family service at 10:30 AM, followed by Frühshoppen and the afternoon program. Dishes from Swabian folk cuisine characterize the culinary offerings.
Free admission to the entire festival. Food and drinks at usual festival prices from the association's stands.
