Spring Wine Fair — Trollinger and Lemberger in Spring
When the Stuttgart vineyards are in full bloom at the end of April and the vineyards on the Cannstatter Zuckerle, Mönchhalde, and Mönchberg turn a lush green, the Spring Wine Fair of Weinfactum Bad Cannstatt eG is in full swing. On April 25 and 26, 2026, the cooperative's Vinothek at the Römerkastell in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt will open its doors for tasting the current wine vintages. It is the traditional meeting point for Swabian wine lovers in spring.
Weinfactum Bad Cannstatt eG
Weinfactum Bad Cannstatt eG is a winemaker cooperative based in Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt. The cooperative unites winemakers from the Cannstatt wine-growing areas — one of the oldest wine-growing regions in Southern Germany, whose vines have been documented since at least the 9th century. The most famous sites: Cannstatter Zuckerle (one of the best-known Württemberg sites, its wines are known regionally under the name "Zuckerle"), Mönchhalde, and Mönchberg. The cooperative produces ambitious, high-quality wines, often bottled as a cuvée from member winemakers — the brand "Weinfactum" denotes the final product.
The Range — Typically Württemberg and Modern
The Weinfactum range reflects Württemberg wine tradition:
- Trollinger — the national grape of Württemberg, light and smooth, the classic table wine of Swabians
- Lemberger — full-bodied red wine with complexity, ideal with Swabian cuisine
- Spätburgunder — the premium red wine, often as a barrel-aged version
- Riesling — the classic German white wine, with a Württemberg touch
- Kerner — a 20th-century Württemberg crossbreed with Riesling characteristics
- Weißburgunder and Chardonnay — modern varieties on the rise
- Sparkling wines from Weinfactum's own production
Taste the Current Vintages at the Spring Fair
During the Spring Wine Fair, you have the opportunity to taste the currently released vintages — usually the white wines from the year before last and the red wines from the most recent vintages. Direct exchange with the cooperative winemakers, curated wine flights (several wines in one tasting), often also comparative tastings of a grape variety from different sites or vintages. The format is sophisticated yet accessible — beginners and wine connoisseurs are equally welcome.
The Vinothek at Römerkastell
The Weinfactum Vinothek is located at Rommelstraße 20, directly by the walls of the Römerkastell — an ancient Roman fortress that shapes the cityscape of Cannstatt. The Vinothek offers a modern, well-kept space for tastings, with a bar, tables, professional glassware, and wine advice. During the Spring Wine Fair, the capacity is expanded — the adjacent outdoor area is also used, weather permitting.
Bad Cannstatt — Wine History on the Neckar
Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt is one of the oldest districts of the Swabian state capital — historically founded long before Stuttgart itself, with Roman roots (the Römerkastell bears witness to this). Cannstatt was a spa town (hence the "Bad" prefix in its name), an important wine-growing village, and a transport hub. Today, Bad Cannstatt is one of Stuttgart's liveliest districts — with the famous Cannstatter Wasen (venue for the Cannstatter Volksfest, Germany's second-largest Volksfest after Oktoberfest), the Kursaal, and the city center with its historic buildings. The vineyards around Cannstatt are embedded in the urban landscape — you can see the vines above the residential areas.
