Romantic Christmas market in the historic castle courtyard — late November to December 24, 2026
The Christmas Magic Ritzebüttel Castle is Cuxhaven's most atmospheric Christmas market. The venue is the historic courtyard of Ritzebüttel Castle, the baroque landmark of the town. The historic walls, the delicate architecture, and the lovingly crafted Advent decorations create the atmosphere that gives the market its name: Christmas Magic.
The 2026 edition is expected to run from late November to December 24, 2026 (approx. Nov 27–Dec 24, 2026; the exact start date will be confirmed by the North Sea spa town). This makes the market one of the few in the region that truly covers the entire Advent season.
This makes the market ideally positioned for both late afternoons (family visits) and after work (mulled wine meetups).
The market's offerings focus on craftsmen's stalls featuring artisan crafts: handmade wooden decorations, ceramics, glass art, jewelry, wool products, Christmas decorations. This clearly positions the market in the high-quality segment — far from cheap imported goods.
The culinary offerings match the castle atmosphere: mulled wine in several varieties, candied almonds, gingerbread, bratwurst, crêpes, doughnuts. The aroma of the Advent season fills the courtyard.
Ritzebüttel Castle is the oldest surviving building in Cuxhaven and has been a landmark of the town for centuries. It was originally a castle for the Hamburg Senate, which administered its affairs at the mouth of the Elbe River from here. Today, it is a museum and event venue — and in Advent, the most romantic stage for Cuxhaven's Christmas offerings.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the North Sea spa town of Cuxhaven in late autumn. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
Ritzebüttel Castle, 27472 Cuxhaven. Via the A 27 motorway to Cuxhaven. Train connection to Cuxhaven station (5 min walk). Parking available in the city center parking garages.
Free admission. Mulled wine, food, and artisan crafts available on-site for purchase.
Weekday evenings are quieter and more atmospheric than weekends. Visit the castle museum after enjoying a mulled wine — if the museum is open.
