47 Years of Talsperrenvolkslauf
In 2026, the Volkslauf around the Thülsfelder Talsperre celebrates its 47th edition, making it one of the most traditional Volksläufe in the southern Cloppenburg district. The event is organized by the LSV Garrel running group, which has been organizing the run since the late 1970s. The venue is the activity area of the Thülsfelder Talsperre – one of the oldest reservoirs in Lower Saxony and a popular local recreation area between Garrel and Friesoythe.
Route Through the Nature Reserve
The 10 km route circles the Thülsfelder Talsperre through the nature reserve of the same name — with varied paths through forests, heathlands, and along the water. Additionally, there is the 5 km route for a shorter distance, the children's run for the youngest athletes, and a Nordic walking loop for walking enthusiasts.
Integrated into the Volkslauf Culture
The Talsperrenvolkslauf is part of the established Volkslauf culture of the southern Cloppenburg district and the Hümmling region. It attracts runners from all over the Oldenburg Münsterland, the neighboring Emsland, and East Frisia every year. The format is family-friendly, with a spirit of competition going hand in hand with camaraderie.
