Largest indoor funfair in the Warendorf district
Looking for a classic Westphalian Volksfest without getting lost in the crowds of Oktoberfest or Cranger Kirmes? Then the Mettwurstmarkt Ennigerloh is the right place for you. For four days at the end of September, the city center of the small district town in western Münsterland transforms into a large festival area with a funfair, market stalls, a live stage, a flea market, and all the ingredients a good German Volksfest needs. With around 20,000 inhabitants, Ennigerloh is manageable, but the Mettwurstmarkt draws crowds from far beyond the city limits.
Amusement rides for all ages are spread throughout the city center: classics like bumper cars and the chain carousel, plus modern thrill rides, a Ferris wheel, and child-friendly stalls. The funfair opens on Saturday morning together with the trade exhibition, which presents regional craftspeople, direct marketers, and associations.
Live music is performed on the main stage at the Teufelsbrunnen all four days — on Saturday, KC & the Soulbrothers and High Gain open the evening, and on Monday, the band “Hitfluencer” takes the stage as the main act. On Sunday, dance groups and acrobatics are on the program during the day. The highlight of local tradition is the Bullenschätzen (bull weighing) on Tuesday morning: Whoever guesses the live weight of the presented animal most accurately wins — a Münsterland custom in its purest form.
Monday is traditionally dedicated to Family Day — with reduced ride prices at all attractions and entertainment for children. Late in the evening, a grand fireworks display crowns the day — pyrotechnically ambitious and surprisingly elaborate for a small town.
On Tuesday morning, one of the largest flea markets in the Warendorf district opens. Stalls stretch over two kilometers through the city center — bric-a-brac, collector's items, second-hand goods, curiosities. Those who are out as early as 6 a.m. will find the best bargains. In parallel, the last day of the funfair runs, with shops open for business and a relaxed closing atmosphere.
Ennigerloh is located in the western part of the Warendorf district, in the heart of Münsterland, North Rhine-Westphalia. The town is characterized by agriculture and medium-sized businesses, with active associations and a pronounced tradition of Volksfests. The Mettwurstmarkt — the name derives from the historical importance of Westphalian Mettwurst production in the region — is the most important city festival of the year and also a point of identity between Beckum, Warendorf, and Oelde.
The 2026 edition of the Mettwurstmarkt kicks off on Saturday, September 26, with the traditional opening at 2 p.m. at the Teufelsbrunnen. Over the following three days and nights, amusement rides and carousels, stage acts, dance groups, association stalls, and market booths will present a classic Westphalian Volksfest. The highlight for many regular visitors: the Bullenschätzen on Tuesday morning, a custom well-known far beyond Ennigerloh.
Admission is free, as every year, Monday remains Family Day with reduced ride prices, and the fireworks display on Monday evening is among the most elaborate in the region. Those looking for bargains should plan for the early Tuesday morning for the flea market stretching over two kilometers.
By car via the A2 (Oelde exit) or A1 (Hamm). Parking around the city center, restricted during the festival week. By train to Neubeckum, then bus or taxi.
Free admission. Tickets at the attractions on site. Monday is Family Day with reduced prices.
Best time for flea market bargains is Tuesday from 6 a.m. Fireworks on Monday evening from dusk.
