Over 470 Years of Market Tradition

The Enniger Markt is one of Westphalia's oldest uninterrupted market events. The first documented market was held in 1552 — meaning the tradition has existed for almost five centuries. The date for 2026 is Tuesday and Wednesday, July 7th and 8th, in Vossbachdorf — the village center of Enniger, a district of the town Ennigerloh in southern Münsterland.

Vossbachdorf as the Festival Setting

Vossbachdorf is the historically grown center of the Enniger district — a village settlement with a parish church, old farmhouses, and the Vossbach stream valley. This is exactly where the market takes place: market stalls along the streets, catering stands run by local heritage associations, carousels, and smaller amusement rides with a Volksfest character. Several tens of thousands of visitors flock here every year from southern Münsterland and northern Sauerland.

Tuesday 1 PM, Wednesday 8 AM

The market dates follow an unusual rhythm: Tuesday from 1 PM and Wednesday from 8 AM. This mid-week date goes back to the historical market tradition — in the late Middle Ages and early modern period, markets were often held in the middle of the week, while Sundays and Saturdays remained reserved for church services and fieldwork. Maintaining this date is a conscious piece of lived tradition.

Volksfest and Flea Market

The Enniger Markt combines classic market trade with Volksfest elements. The local clubs run the catering stands — serving beer, bratwurst, fries, and dishes from Westphalian cuisine. Alongside these, there are market stalls, showmen, a flea market area (announced via Krencky24 and other flea market platforms), and performances by regional clubs. Volksfest character dominates — the market is not purely a sales event, but a regional gathering.

Heimatverein Enniger

The organizer is the Heimatverein Enniger. Like many local heritage associations in Münsterland, it carries the cultural identity of the district and organizes several events throughout the year — Schützenfest (marksmen's festival), Erntedank (harvest festival), Adventsmarkt (Advent market) — in addition to the Enniger Markt as its most important date.

Ennigerloh in Münsterland

Ennigerloh, a town with around 20,000 inhabitants in the Warendorf district, is a classic small town in Münsterland with several rural districts. Enniger is one of them — historically independent, incorporated in 1975. The retention of the old market name 'Enniger Markt' highlights the historical depth of the district.
