Annual farmers' market in the historic half-timbered old town of Schiltach in the Black Forest — produce from the Central Black Forest
Schiltach, in the district of Rottweil (AGS 08325), is considered one of the most beautiful half-timbered towns in Southern Germany. The medieval old town with its painted burgher houses from the 16th to 18th centuries sits enthroned between the Kinzig river and the Schiltach stream in the Central Black Forest. The historic alleys, the castle, the market square backdrop — the setting for the annual Bauernmarkt (farmers' market) is extraordinary. Date 2026: Sunday, October 18, 2026, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m..
The Schiltach Farmers' Market is not a tourist market, but an authentic producers' market from the region. Over 40 stalls present products from farmers in the Central Black Forest and its neighboring regions:
A special feature of the Schiltach Farmers' Market: the Bulldogfreunde Sulgen (Sulgen Tractor Friends) present historic tractors ("Bulldogs") from the 1930s to 1960s — driving through the old town and exhibited in the market square. A tribute to the agricultural history of the region. The market is accompanied by regional music groups — Stubenmusi, accordion players, small folk music bands — who provide atmosphere scattered throughout the alleys.
In parallel with the farmers' market, there is a verkaufsoffener Sonntag (shops open on Sunday) — the shops in the old town (fashion, bookshops, restaurants, souvenirs) also open. Schiltach thus invites you for an all-day excursion: market in the morning, Black Forest lunch in a traditional inn at midday, a city tour and coffee in a farm café in the afternoon. The town of Schiltach coordinates everything — it is the patron and organizer of the market.
The Schwarzwälder Bote newspaper describes the Schiltach Farmers' Market as "one of the most beautiful farmers' market experiences in Middle Baden." The combination of authentic producers, a dreamlike half-timbered backdrop, historic tractors, and musical accompaniment makes the market a insider tip for anyone who wants to experience rural Black Forest culture.
The market transforms Schiltach's old town into a platform for regional producers for an entire Sunday. The exact list of stalls will be published on schiltach.de at the beginning of October — experience shows that there will be over 40 exhibitors.
Free admission. Payment at the market stalls with cash.
