Joint regatta of Berlin rowing clubs over 30 kilometers around the Großer Müggelsee
Berlin is the German capital of rowing. Several dozen rowing clubs line the Spree, Havel, Müggelsee, and Berlin's southeastern waterways. Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau e.V. – one of the oldest of these clubs, with its own boathouse on the Berlin-Grünau regatta course – hosts «Anrudern – Rund um die Müggelberge» every August. It is a joint regatta, not a competition: no winner, no timing, but a shared tour through the Müggelsee waterway system with fellow rowers from the region.
The main course leads from the Berlin-Grünau regatta course on the Langer See, across the Dahme, into the Großer Müggelsee, around the lake, and back – a total of about 30 kilometers. A tour that means a long day for trained rowers, but is scenically one of the most beautiful rowing routes in Germany: the water crosses the Müggelseen, the Müggelpark, and old Berlin boathouses stand on the shores. Those who do not want to row the full distance can switch to the 9 km short route.
The excursion begins in the afternoon – traditionally at 3 PM – and ends in the late afternoon or early evening, depending on the chosen distance. Afterwards, the summer festival of Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau begins on the club grounds at Regattastraße 247: barbecue, beer, a small stage program. Those who want to row must be registered with a boat crew – registration is through Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau or their respective home clubs. The event is freely accessible to spectators, ideally from the regatta grandstand or the shore paths along the Langer See.
«Rund um die Müggelberge» is part of a long Berlin rowing tradition. «Anrudern» – the first joint excursion of a season – and «Abrudern» – the last – have been fixed dates in Berlin rowing clubs for over a hundred years. The «Rund um die Müggelberge» format has evolved from this club culture into an open Berlin joint regatta. Visitors can witness a piece of sports culture that functions far from professional sports and top performance: 30 kilometers on the water, in a club, with friends, followed by the summer festival.
The 2026 edition continues the Berlin tradition of summer «Anrudern» regattas. Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau e.V. opens its regatta course and boathouse to participating clubs and spectators on the shore.
Those wishing to participate as active rowers should register early through their local Berlin rowing club or directly with Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau – places are limited for organizational reasons (boat capacity on the regatta course, safety). For spectators, the regatta grandstand and the shore paths around the boathouse offer the best view of the event.
Start and finish at the Berlin-Grünau regatta course on the Langer See. The main route goes via the Dahme into the Großer Müggelsee, around the lake, and back. The short route stays within the Langer See and Dahme area.

S-Bahn S8/S46/S85 to S Grünau, then a 15-minute walk to the regatta course. Tram 68 to «Wassersportallee» or «Grünauer Brücke». Easily accessible by bicycle via Regattastraße.
Active participation (as a crew member) only with a registered club and boat crew. Registration via Ruder-Gemeinschaft Grünau e.V. (rg-gruenau.de) or the local Berlin rowing clubs. For spectators on the shore and at the regatta grandstand: free admission.
The best viewing points are the regatta grandstand in Grünau (start and finish) and the shore paths around the Langer See. Those who want to experience the summer festival afterwards should inquire in advance whether there is a public program – often, the rowing clubs' summer festivals are internal club events.
