Annual pilgrimage and day of prayer in the Upper Palatinate pilgrimage community
Konnersreuth in the Tirschenreuth district of the Upper Palatinate is inextricably linked with the name Therese Neumann. The farmer (1898–1962), who became known as a stigmatist, attracted numerous believers during her lifetime; to this day, many thousands of pilgrims visit the town, the Resl House, and the Therese Neumann Museum every year. In 2005, Bishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller opened the beatification process for the "Servant of God" for the Catholic Church.
The Great Day of Prayer is the central spiritual occasion of the year in Konnersreuth. The parish of St. Laurentius invites you to pray together for the beatification of Therese Neumann. The day follows a fixed schedule: In the afternoon, the Stations of the Cross begin, followed by prayer services in the parish church and opportunities for confession. In the evening, the Rosary and a solemn Pontifical Mass lead to the climax; in past years, the retired Archbishop Ludwig Schick, among others, celebrated the service. The church is regularly filled to capacity on this occasion.
The most impressive moment is the evening candlelight procession from the parish church to Therese Neumann's grave and back to the fountain on Therese-Neumann-Platz. Further prayer services in the church continue until midnight. Pilgrimage groups from Germany and abroad, including regularly from the Netherlands, participate; numerous priests and religious also accompany the day.
The Great Day of Prayer is an expression of a living pilgrimage tradition in the state of Bavaria. Those who participate experience the deeply rooted popular piety of the Upper Palatinate and the ongoing interest in one of the region's most famous religious figures. The Resl House and the Therese Neumann Museum also invite deeper reflection.
The Great Day of Prayer 2026 will follow the established schedule: Stations of the Cross in the afternoon, prayer services and opportunities for confession in the parish church of St. Laurentius, Rosary and solemn Pontifical Mass in the evening, followed by a candlelight procession to Therese Neumann's grave and back to Therese-Neumann-Platz, concluding with prayer services until midnight. Pilgrimage groups from Germany and abroad will participate. The exact date will be published by the parish of Konnersreuth.
Participation in all program items is free of charge.
