Four-day town festival on the second weekend of August around the market square and castle
The Alzenauer Stadtfest has taken place every year since 2001 on the second weekend of August and is considered one of the largest town festivals on the Bavarian Untermain. The organizer is the City of Alzenau, and the festival is further supported by a multitude of local clubs, restaurateurs, and breweries. It traditionally opens from Friday to Monday – a four-day format that is rare in this form.
The program starts on Friday evening with a grand parade of Alzenau's clubs through the town center to the Market Square, where Mayor Stephan Noll opens the festival with the traditional Festbieranstich (tapping of the festival beer). Throughout the weekend, several bands and DJs perform on the Market Square and Castle Square stages; the amusement rides and showmen are located in the parking lot at Alzenau Castle. Catering stands from clubs, restaurants, and breweries are spread around the market and in the alleys.
On Sunday, the Rotary Club Alzenau organizes a rubber duck race for charity on the Kahl river – a fixed program item for years. Monday is Family Day with its own children's program and ends in the evening with the grand fireworks display at Alzenau Castle, the visual highlight of the entire festival weekend.
Alzenau is a town in the district of Aschaffenburg in the extreme northwest of Bavaria, bordering Hesse and the Rhine-Main region. Alzenau Castle is the town's landmark and also the namesake concluding point of the town festival. Travel by train from Frankfurt am Main takes about 45 minutes (RB55 / RE55), by car via the A45 / A3.
The 2026 edition follows the established four-day format from Friday to Monday (August 7–10). Opening on Friday evening with a parade of Alzenau's clubs through the town center to the market square; beer tapping by Mayor Stephan Noll.
On the weekend, several live stages on the market square, castle square, and in the alleys will fill the town center; the amusement rides will be located in the parking lot at Alzenau Castle. The highlight is the grand fireworks display at Alzenau Castle on Monday evening, the traditional Family Day.
