A Maritime Volksfest with Tradition

The Rügener Hafentage are a staple of the summer calendar on Rügen Island. Traditionally held on the second weekend in July, the harbour town of Sassnitz invites you to the island's largest maritime Volksfest. The city harbour and promenade become the stage for a festival that attracts locals and holidaymakers alike.

A Festival Mile by the Water

The heart of the Hafentage is the promenade: stretching for about 1.5 kilometres, it runs from the east to the west harbour. Around 120 vendors line the route with stalls, food stands, and amusement rides. A colourful entertainment programme of live music and show acts for all generations takes place on the main stage in the east harbour and a second stage in the west harbour.

Sailing Ships and Fireworks

The maritime character of the festival is enhanced by historic sailing ships that dock in the city harbour and invite guests to join them for a trip on the Baltic Sea. A sailing regatta adds sporting excitement on the water. The highlight is the pyrotechnic spectacle on Saturday evening, when a grand fireworks display over the harbour crowns the day. Fish dishes and regional specialities play a special culinary role.
