International sailing spectacle of the SailGP series off the chalk cliffs of Rügen
The Germany Sail Grand Prix is part of SailGP, the international sailing racing series, which is considered one of the most spectacular in the world. 13 national teams compete on identical F50 catamarans – high-performance boats that seem to hover above the water thanks to foiling technology and reach speeds of over 100 kilometers per hour. The Germany SailGP Team is also among the competitors.
The races take place in the Baltic Sea off Sassnitz, with the white chalk cliffs of the island of Rügen providing a unique backdrop. The racing action can be easily followed from the promenade and the east mole. On land, the Race Stadium offers a festival atmosphere with family-friendly entertainment, interactive fan experiences, F50 simulators, and photo opportunities.
The SailGP weekend is embedded in a multi-day program. In the run-up to the races, there are Team Base Tours where visitors can get a behind-the-scenes look at the teams. The actual races take place on two consecutive days and form the sporting highlight.
Sassnitz is located in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. With the Germany Sail Grand Prix, the harbor town has established itself as the venue for a major international event. The first edition already attracted thousands of spectators to the coast and made Sassnitz a meeting point for the international sailing scene.
The international sailing racing series SailGP returns to Germany in 2026. The ROCKWOOL Germany Sail Grand Prix will be held on August 22 and 23, 2026, off the coast of Sassnitz – the second edition of the event.
