Concert series in the Grundtvighaus multi-generational house in Sassnitz on Rügen
The Grundtvighaus on Seestraße 3 in Sassnitz is much more than just a venue: as a multi-generational house, it is a vibrant meeting place for young and old in the heart of the harbor town. Supported by Grundtvighaus e. V. and many volunteers, the house offers a dense cultural program – with the regular concert series at its core.
The concerts at Grundtvighaus cover a broad musical spectrum. Classical chamber music with piano trios and string ensembles alternates with jazz, song recitals, and programs by young emerging musicians. The house provides a setting where audience and artists are close to each other – a concert atmosphere that is rarely created in large halls.
A special feature of the series is its openness: admission is a moderate 15 euros, and young people under 18 have free entry. Some concerts are organized as benefit events, with proceeds going to social causes. Thus, Grundtvighaus combines cultural ambition with social commitment.
Sassnitz is located in the Vorpommern-Rügen district in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on the edge of the Jasmund National Park UNESCO World Natural Heritage. The Grundtvighaus, named after the Danish theologian and educator N. F. S. Grundtvig, stands in the tradition of Nordic popular education. Its concert series enriches the year-round cultural life of the town and is also a worthwhile program item for holidaymakers.
Grundtvighaus Sassnitz continues its year-round concert series in 2026. Confirmed dates include the jazz trio Derek Plays Eric on April 11, the Geister Trio on May 2 with a classical chamber music program, and the quintet Garn on May 16. Further concerts will follow throughout the year.
