Franconian Kirwa in the Nürnberger Land

The Hüttenbach Kirchweih is the annual Kirwa in the Hüttenbach district of the municipality of Simmelsdorf, located in the Nürnberger Land district (Middle Franconia, Bavaria). It is one of the liveliest village Kirwas in the region and is run entirely by volunteers.

The Kirwafreunde Hüttenbach 1992 e.V.

The organizer is the association Kirwafreunde Hüttenbach 1992 e.V. The members, Kirwaboum and Kirwamadla, take care of everything themselves – from planning and setup to full catering. This voluntary tradition shapes the familiar, authentic character of the festival and makes it known far beyond the village.

Customs: Kirwala-Ausgraben and Baumaufstellen

The festival begins on Friday with the traditional 'Kirwala-Ausgraben', and in the evening, a band plays in the festival tent. On Saturday, the Kirwaboum fetch the Kirwabaum (Kirwa tree) and erect it together in the old Franconian manner – an effort of strength and, at the same time, the social highlight of the Kirwa. Over the following days, the festival tent operations, brass music, dancing, and Franconian delicacies set the tone, until the Kirwala is symbolically buried again at the end.

A Festival for the Whole Region

The Hüttenbach Kirwa is known for its exuberant atmosphere and great fun, attracting visitors from all over the Nürnberger Land. It is a firm fixture in the Franconian Kirwa calendar and an example of how a small village keeps its traditions alive with great dedication.
