Classical chamber music in Franconian Baroque castles
The Orangerie Concerts are a small but exquisite classical series in the Steigerwald, which has focused on the castle concert format for years: few seats, exquisite acoustics, direct proximity between stage and audience. The appeal lies in the interplay of music and location. The venues – Schloss Sugenheim, the Orangerie of Schloss Unternzenn, and Schloss Hausenhof – are all Baroque buildings that, in their original function, hosted court music.
The opera singer Christoph von Weitzel is responsible for the program design, curating the series and inviting soloists from Italy, Germany, and the international scene. His aspiration: concerts that combine "high-caliber music with Baroque elegance" – without the detached glamour of large concert halls.
Schloss Sugenheim in the market town of Sugenheim (district of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim) is the largest of the three venues and the setting for two of the four concerts. Schloss Unternzenn is located in the market town of Obernzenn and houses the eponymous Orangerie, where the series originates. Schloss Hausenhof – also near Obernzenn – is the third venue and the setting for the season finale in September.
Four concerts between June and September structure the 2026 season. The programs range from Chopin piano concertos to French-Spanish impressions and classical solo recitals. International soloists – Sandra Landini, Cinzia Bartoli, Tullio Zorzet, Helga Pisapia, and Valerio Premuroso – contribute to the musical breadth. Those who buy at least four tickets receive a five-euro discount per ticket through the "Festival Concert Pass.".
The Orangerie Concerts are part of a cultural summer network in Franconian Steigerwald, which uses castles, monasteries, and historic town centers as concert venues. The Mittelfranken region (AGS 09575, Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim district) is easily accessible from Nuremberg, Würzburg, and Bamberg.
The 2026 season of the Orangerie Concerts includes four dates in three castles. The series begins on June 20 in Schloss Sugenheim with Sandra Landini and the Marai Quartet, followed by a piano recital with Cinzia Bartoli on July 4 – also in Sugenheim. On July 12, the series moves to the Orangerie of Schloss Unternzenn, and for the season finale on September 20, to Schloss Hausenhof.
The audience will experience a single concert evening per date – not a series within a weekend, but four independent concert events spread throughout the summer. Tickets are available individually or as a Festival Concert Pass.
"Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1" – Sandra Landini (Piano) with the Marai Quartet.
Piano recital by Cinzia Bartoli with works by Ravel and Chopin.
"Spanish and French Impressions" – Tullio Zorzet (Cello), Helga Pisapia (Piano).
Piano recital by Valerio Premuroso to conclude the season.
