Medieval market in the historic Scheunenviertel of Estorf with crafts, music, and camp life
The Scheunenviertel of Estorf is a historic ensemble of old farm barns on the outskirts of the municipality. Estorf belongs to the Mittelweser municipality in the Nienburg/Weser district. The barns, many dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, are a living example of North German agricultural architecture and, with their half-timbered facades, thatched roofs, and cobblestone courtyards, offer an authentic setting for medieval reenactments.
The market exclusively offers handcrafted goods based on historical models: leather, wood, blacksmith work, ceramics, mead, wool fabrics, jewelry, natural cosmetics. The vendors wear medieval clothing, and the entire presentation β from food to music β follows a consistently pre-modern concept. Plastic, electricity, and electric light are not visible in the market area.
In addition to the market itself, reenactment groups with tents, campfires, and demonstrations are present. Medieval music with hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, shawms, and drums can be heard between the barns. For children, there are hands-on activities: archery, felting, old games, coin striking. Jesters, short theater scenes, and fire shows in the evening complete the program.
The food follows medieval models: stick bread cooked over an open fire, suckling pig on a spit, stews from cast-iron pots, mead, spiced wine, regional beer. The food is served in earthenware bowls, and drinks are served in clay cups or horns.
The Medieval Market Scheunenviertel Estorf has become a highlight in the event calendar of the Mittelweser municipality. It attracts visitors from the entire Nienburg/Weser district, from Diepholz, and from Verden, combining tradition, family activities, and a charming atmosphere.
The exact 2026 program, including market opening hours, show times, and admission prices, will be communicated in advance by the organizers and the Mittelweser municipality. The presentation follows a consistently medieval concept.
The exact detailed program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven cornerstones of typical medieval markets:
Plastic, visible power cables, and modern logos are not permitted in the market area. The presentation is focused on a consistently medieval atmosphere.
