Franconian Wine Festival on Schlossplatz – 10th Anniversary Edition 2026
The Erlangen Wine Festival on Schlossplatz celebrates its 10th edition in 2026 – an anniversary for one of the youngest, yet now well-established wine festivals in Middle Franconia. The event is organized by the Erlangen Tourism and Marketing Association e.V. together with Zametzer & Krohn GbR. Wine stands, food stalls, and a central music stage are spread across Schlossplatz – in the heart of Erlangen's baroque old town between the Margrave's Palace and the university.
The focus is on around 40 different wines from Franconia. Wineries represented include Biegner from Prichsenstadt, Goger from Sand am Main, Ruppert from Hammelburg, and Schmitt from Bergtheim. From Silvaner to Bacchus to Rosé, from dry Franconian wine in a Bocksbeutel bottle to Federweißen: the Franconian wine region with its growing areas Steigerwald, Maindreieck, and Mainviereck presents itself in full breadth.
The festival will be opened on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 6:30 pm by the newly elected 68th Franconian Wine Queen Angelina Seiler and Erlangen's Mayor Jörg Volleth. Afterwards, the musical program begins with the band Rossinis (Italian music, Rock'n'Roll, 1950s).
Each of the five festival days features live music on Schlossplatz – from Blues-Jazz-Folk (Wulli & Sonja) and the 80s dance band Heaven to the 11-piece funk band Intermezzo. The festival concludes on Sunday with Golden Hearings (Authentic Rock Oldies) and the Erlangen ensemble d'groove.
Erlangen, a university city of Friedrich-Alexander-Universität (FAU) with around 113,000 inhabitants, a Siemens location, and a baroque Huguenot city, is not located in a classic wine-growing region but is in close proximity to the Franconian wine regions. The wine festival connects the urban audience with producers from Steigerwald, Maindreieck, and Saaletal – and complements the large Bergkirchweih Volksfest with a more refined, wine-oriented counterpart in the spring.
The 2026 anniversary edition marks 10 years of the Erlangen Wine Festival. The festival starts on Wednesday, May 13th at 4 pm with wine service by the participating wineries, followed by the official opening ceremony at 6:30 pm by the newly elected 68th Franconian Wine Queen Angelina Seiler and Erlangen's Mayor Jörg Volleth. Afterwards, Rossinis take the stage.
On the following days, the music program changes daily – from singer-songwriters to 80s dance hits to funk and rock oldies. Thursday (Ascension Day), being a public holiday, is typically the busiest day.
