About Wine Festival Buxtehude

From Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th, 2026, the Weinfest Buxtehude transforms the Old Town of the Hanseatic city of Buxtehude into a stage for German wine culture. The Altstadtverein Buxtehude e.V. invites vintners from various German growing regions to present their wines on St.-Petri-Platz, at Stavenort, and on Rathausplatz. Three central Buxtehude squares will become places for tasting and enjoyment. The wine offerings are accompanied by a rich cultural and musical program with concerts, readings, and art events, blending the character of a classic wine festival from Southern and Central Germany with the Northern German Hanseatic flair of Buxtehude. The wine festival is one of the most atmospheric summer festivals in the Hanseatic city, attracting wine lovers from Buxtehude, the Altes Land region, Hamburg, and the entire metropolitan area.

German Wine in Buxtehude's Old Town

Wine festivals are rare in Northern Germany – unlike in the classic wine-growing regions of Southern and Central Germany. This is precisely what makes the Weinfest Buxtehude special. It brings vintners from Rheingau, Pfalz, Mosel, and Saale-Unstrut to Buxtehude, creating a rare encounter between Northern German festival culture and Southern German wine tradition.

Three Squares, Three Atmospheres

The wine festival spans three central squares in Buxtehude's Old Town. St.-Petri-Platz, in front of St. Petri Church, is one of the most atmospheric festival locations. Stavenort, a historic Buxtehude street, offers a different festival character. Rathausplatz, in front of the historic town hall, completes the festival circuit. This decentralization allows visitors to move through the Old Town and experience different atmospheres.

Altstadtverein Buxtehude — Organizer of the Festival

The Altstadtverein Buxtehude e.V. is a key player in the Hanseatic city, bringing together committed citizens, traders, and cultural practitioners with the goal of revitalizing Buxtehude's Old Town. Alongside the Oktoberfest and the Fairy Tale Days, the wine festival is one of the highlights organized by the association.

Vintners, Wines, Advice

At the vintners' stands, visitors can taste and purchase various wines directly from the producers. Riesling, Spätburgunder, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Grauburgunder, and Weißburgunder are presented in diverse variations. The vintners offer personal advice, sharing stories about their wineries and cultivation methods — an experience not possible in this form at Northern German supermarkets.

Music, Art, and Culture

The accompanying program includes live music at the various festival locations — from jazz trios and singer-songwriters to classical ensembles. Readings, art installations, and activities by local cultural creators complement the sensory offerings. Thus, the wine festival is not just a drinking festival, but a cultural celebration.

Wine Festival Buxtehude — edition 2026

The Weinfest Buxtehude 2026 takes place from Friday, August 14th, to Sunday, August 16th, in Buxtehude's Old Town. Over three festival days, vintners from German growing regions will present their wines on St.-Petri-Platz, at Stavenort, and on Rathausplatz. The wine tasting will be accompanied by a music, art, and cultural program. The Altstadtverein Buxtehude e.V. organizes the festival against the backdrop of the historic Hanseatic city. The exact program for 2026, including the list of vintners and concerts, will be published by the organizer in the summer.

Three Festival Days, Three Squares

The distribution across St.-Petri-Platz, Stavenort, and Rathausplatz makes the wine festival a festive stroll through the Old Town.
