36th City Festival in the Lower Franconian Bishop's City
The Würzburger Stadtfest will take place for the 36th time in 2026, making it one of the longest-running city festivals in Lower Franconia. It is traditionally celebrated on the Friday and Saturday after the Bavarian summer holidays and attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the city center.
The festival grounds extend across the entire historic city center: from the station forecourt via Augustinerstraße, Semmelstraße, the Marktplatz, to the Alte Mainbrücke. Around ten stages with different musical styles are spread along this axis.
The main stages include:
The programme combines local clubs, emerging artists with regional and national acts. Over 200 hours of live music will be played over the two days.
The official opening takes place on Friday with a beer tapping – traditionally staggered on several stages so that the festival begins simultaneously in different parts of the city.
Würzburg, an independent city in the Bavarian administrative region of Lower Franconia, is one of Southern Germany's most famous historic cities with its Residence (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Prince-Bishop's Palace, and its wine production. The city festival plays with this backdrop: the stages are set against baroque facades, on the banks of the Main river, and in the central Marktplatz.
The 2026 edition is the 36th iteration of the festival. On the main stages Würzburger Hofbräu (Marktplatz), Frizz/WVV (Marktplatz), and TV-Mainfranken (Eichhornstraße), as well as other smaller stages, local, regional, and national artists will perform in rotation.
The opening traditionally takes place on Friday with a beer tapping at staggered times on various stages – thus, the festival begins simultaneously in several parts of the city center.
The full lineup with all bands per stage will be published in summer 2026 at wuems.de/stadtfest.
Free admission. Food and drinks are paid for directly at the stalls and in the city center's restaurants.
Würzburg Hauptbahnhof is located directly at the festival grounds. ICE connections towards Frankfurt, Munich, and Nuremberg. By car via the A 3 or A 7 motorways. Car parks on the outskirts are recommended.
