Traditional regatta of brown sails on the Saaler Bodden
The Wustrow Zeesboot Regatta is one of the most beautiful maritime events on the Fischland-Darß-Zingst peninsula. The Zeesboote — flat-bottomed fishing boats with distinctive reddish-brown sails — have shaped the image of the Bodden for centuries. During the regatta, the historic boats compete against each other on the Saaler Bodden and are visible for hours on end.
The boats are judged in three classes based on hull length — large, medium, and small Zeesboote. The start and finish are in the Permin Bay, with the start usually around 1 p.m. and the boats returning to the harbor between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. The competition combines sporting ambition with the preservation of maritime cultural heritage.
A full-day festival accompanies the regatta at the Fischland harbor: a regional craft market, stage program with live music, shanty singing, fish rolls, and drinks. There is entertainment for children and model boats in the harbor basin. Admission is free.
Wustrow on the Fischland peninsula belongs to the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The Zeesboot Regatta is part of the 'brown sails' regatta series, which connects several Bodden towns in the summer, keeping the centuries-old Fischland boat-building and fishing tradition alive.
On July 4, 2026, the Baltic Sea resort of Wustrow hosts the 41st Zeesboot Regatta. The festival at Fischland harbor begins at 10 a.m. with family entertainment, children's activities, and model boats in the harbor basin.
The Zeesboote start the regatta on the Saaler Bodden around 1 p.m. and are expected back between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. Judging is in three classes based on hull length. On land, a craft market, stage program, and live music create a festive atmosphere.
Admission is free. Food and goods at the stalls are subject to charge.
