Gallop on the Baltic Sea Beach
The Fischländer Strandgalopprennen is one of the unique traditional events on the Fischland coast. Every year on Easter Saturday, the beach of Wustrow near the pier becomes a racetrack. On a roughly 300-meter course directly by the sea, horses and riders compete in fast gallop races — an unusual setting that combines equestrian sport and the Baltic Sea beach.
Three Categories, Fast Races
Races are held in three categories: ponies up to 130 cm height, small horses up to 150 cm, and large horses without restriction. In preliminary and final heats starting at 1 PM, the riders — passionate horse lovers from the region and their guests — determine the winners. The short course ensures exciting, fast-paced races.
Festive Day on the Beach
For spectators along the racetrack, there's mulled wine, cake, and bratwurst, and you can bet on the horses in a spectator raffle. After the award ceremony, an Easter bonfire will be lit on the beach in the evening — weather permitting — accompanied by live music. Thus, the Strandgalopprennen combines sporting competition with Easter traditions.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Vorpommern-Rügen
Wustrow on the Fischland peninsula belongs to the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The Strandgalopprennen kicks off the season on the Baltic Sea and, alongside Tonnenabschlagen and Zeesbootregatta, is one of the characteristic festivals of Fischland tradition.
