Oldest Volksfest Tradition in the Regensburg District

The Tangrintel-Volksfest originated in 1852 as an agricultural festival. Today, according to the town of Hemau, it is the largest Volksfest in the Regensburg district, with a festival area of around 12,000 square meters and a multi-day festival program. The name "Tangrintel" derives from the old Tangrintel-Gau, a historical settlement area on the Jura high plateau in the northern Upper Palatinate.

Brewery Parade and Beer Tapping Ceremony

The festival traditionally starts on Friday with a parade through Hemau's old town – with a brewery carriage and festival tent band. Upon arrival at the festival grounds, the mayor performs the beer tapping ceremony, officially opening the festivities. Free beer in limited quantities is part of the opening tradition.

Farmers' Day — A Reminder of the Roots

A special feature is the Farmers' Day on the last day of the festival (traditionally Tuesday), which commemorates the agricultural roots of the event.
