Volksfest Tradition in the Labertal Valley

The Beratzhausen Volksfest has been the social summer highlight of the Upper Palatinate market town of Beratzhausen in the district of Regensburg, Bavaria, for generations. Organized by the market town of Beratzhausen in cooperation with the local festival host, the Volksfest spans a whole week from Wednesday to Monday around the second Sunday in July.

Program Structure

The festival week follows a proven schedule, celebrated almost identically each year:

• Wednesday & Thursday (Eve): Advance sale of food and drink vouchers in the festival tent, optional tent cabaret (most recently in 2025 with Martina Schwarzmann, sold out immediately).
• Friday – Volksfest Opening: 6:00 PM stand concert by the brass band in the market square, followed by a grand procession to the festival tent, where the ceremonial beer tapping takes place. In the evening, festival operations with the Dult band „Bavarian Connection".
• Saturday: Senior reception in the afternoon, from 7:00 PM party atmosphere with local heroes „Spitz af Knopf".
• Sunday: 10:00 AM ecumenical festival service in the tent with brass band, from 1:00 PM lunch, 1:30 PM coffee and cake, from 6:00 PM Bavarian Evening with „Quetschnblech".
• Monday – Children's Afternoon & Closing: Women's Union crafting, face painting, 3:00 PM Kasperltheater (puppet show), from 6:00 PM evening program with the party band „Black & White".

Volksfest Human Kicker

A special feature of Beratzhausen is the Volksfest Human Kicker – a giant table football game set up in the festival tent, where clubs, regulars' tables, and groups of friends compete against each other. The entry list is published in advance on beratzhausen.com and is usually full weeks in advance.

Festival Tent Catering

The festival tent at the Volksfestplatz offers several hundred seats. Upper Palatinate festival beer is served; the menu includes classic Bavarian delicacies: pork knuckles, roast pork with dumplings, half chickens, grilled fish on a stick, Obatzda with pretzels. Table reservations are possible with the festival host, and voucher pre-sales are handled on Wednesday and Thursday evenings before the festival begins.

Carnival Parade as a Second Pillar

Beratzhausen is known not only for its Volksfest but also for its traditional Faschingzug (Carnival Parade) (2026: February 14, 2026), one of the largest in the Upper Palatinate – an indication of the market town's strong tradition and culture.

Beratzhausen and Surroundings

The market town of Beratzhausen is located in the valley of the Schwarze Laber river, on the edge of the Altmühltal Nature Park. With around 5,800 inhabitants, Beratzhausen offers the typical mix of a civic town, limestone cliffs, castle ruins, and hiking opportunities. The Volksfest is ideally combined with a weekend trip to the Upper Palatinate.
