Four-day summer festival of the Musikverein Hirrlingen on the first weekend of September
In 2026, the Musikverein Hirrlingen e.V. looks back on a 66-year tradition of its summer festival. What began as a small club festival in 1960 is now one of the largest summer festivals in the district of Tübingen and the Schönbuch region. Every year on the first weekend of September (Friday to Monday, four days), the club transforms the festival grounds at the festival tent into one of the liveliest festival sites in the region.
The musical highlights of 2026 are Dirndlknacker and Papi's Pumpels — two of the most sought-after party bands in Southern Germany. Dirndlknacker deliver party music in Bavarian-Swabian traditional attire, with hits from Schlager, Pop, and folk music crossover. Papi's Pumpels are the cult combo of the Hohenlohe and Württemberg festival scene — with their themed shows, extravagant costumes, and rousing dance hits.
The structure of the festival weekend is classically Swabian: Friday evening, festival opening with an opening concert and the first party band. Saturday, continuous festival operation with lunch specials, guest bands in the afternoon, and the headliner set in the evening. Sunday, morning pint (Frühschoppen), festive lunch, family afternoon with children's program, and the festival evening in the evening. Monday, festival winding down with a morning pint and a relaxed day program.
The Musikverein Hirrlingen — a traditional brass band with an extensive repertoire — provides the musical backbone itself. They play the morning pint on Sunday and Monday mornings, perform as the opening band on Friday evening, and hand over to friendly music clubs from the Tübingen district and the Swabian Jura in between. The festival catering serves Swabian classics: roast pork, roast beef, Spätzle, Maultaschen, sausage salad, French fries.
Sunday afternoon is family day. Bouncy castle, children's carousel, face painting, craft activities, play areas — club members organize the program, keeping the little ones entertained while parents relax at the festival catering.
Hirrlingen, a municipality with just under 3,000 inhabitants in the district of Tübingen, is located in the Schönbuch foreland southwest of Rottenburg. The village is the starting point for hikes in the Schönbuch Nature Park — one of Württemberg's largest contiguous forest areas. Its location between Tübingen and Rottenburg makes the municipality easily accessible by transport.
The dates are officially confirmed by the Musikverein Hirrlingen: "The next summer festival will take place from September 4th to 7th, 2026!" The festival thus follows the traditional date on the first weekend of September.
