Open-air radio festival on the North Sea with DJ stars
N-JOY The Beach Büsum is one of the largest free open-air festivals on the North Sea. The NDR youth radio N-JOY annually brings a DJ headliner evening directly to the beach of the Familienlagune Perlebucht in Büsum in late summer. The stage is set right in the sand, the audience dances against the backdrop of the North Sea – a setting that is unique in Germany in this form.
Three DJ acts perform per edition, plus moderation and live segments from N-JOY shows. The atmosphere is typically loud, young, and exuberant for a festival. Unlike major festivals, however, admission is free – an open Volksfest (public festival) on the beach, not a cordoned-off festival site. N-JOY moderators Martina and Greg from the morning show host the event.
The lineup regularly attracts international DJ stars: in 2026, these are Topic, David Puentez, and LUNAX. Topic ("Breaking Me") has over 19 million monthly Spotify listeners, David Puentez is in the German Top 40 with hits like "Burn," and LUNAX has garnered over 400 million streams. A constellation that matches the scale of large festival stages – only free and on the beach.
The Familienlagune Perlebucht is an artificially created lagoon on the beach of Büsum with its own sandy beach and swimming area. It is used as a large event space in the summer and as a beach zone in the winter. Büsum belongs to the Dithmarschen district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, one of the most important tourist communities on the North Sea coast. Travel by train from Hamburg is straightforward; a shuttle service from the train station to the beach will be provided for the festival.
The 2026 edition runs on Saturday, August 29, starting at 6 PM in the Familienlagune Perlebucht. The stage is set directly on the beach, with the audience dancing in the sand against the North Sea backdrop. Security checks at the entrances, open-air format in all weather conditions.
After the festival ends, shuttle buses will run from Büsum directly to the train station, making the return journey easy even late at night.
Martina and Greg from the N-JOY morning show host the evening.
