Christmas on the North Sea

Büsum is one of Schleswig-Holstein's best-known North Sea spas, located in the Dithmarschen district directly on the Wadden Sea. While most visitors know the town in summer for its crabs, beaches, and mudflat hikes, the Büsumer Winterzauber has established itself as a firm tradition in recent years – a Christmas market with a maritime flair that transforms the harbor town into a sea of lights from late November to early January.

The Market Concept

The focus is on the Rathauspark with its decorated wooden stalls grouped around the Advent tree. Here you'll find regional crafts – ceramics from Eiderstedt, felt goods from the North Frisian hinterland, wood carvings, handmade candles. Alongside these are culinary stalls: potato pancakes, fresh crêpes, hearty stews from the cauldron, candied almonds, bratwurst, and of course mulled wine in various versions. The market extends from the town hall through the pedestrian zone to the harbor basin.

St. Nicholas Visit and Advent Calendar

On December 6th, St. Nicholas visits the children in the Watt'n Hus – the family-friendly experience center at the harbor. A special attraction is the digital Advent calendar, which offers daily prize draws from Büsum businesses from December 1st to 24th. The total value of the prizes is around 6,000 euros.

Maritime Scenery

What sets the Büsumer Winterzauber apart from other Christmas markets: the sea is always present. From the market, it's only a few steps to the harbor and the promenade. A walk along the dike after a glass of mulled wine, the view of the crab cutters in the winter evening sun, the smell of the mudflats – this makes Büsum a place where Christmas looks different than in the low mountain ranges.
