Summer chamber music series in the Hohenzollern rock town for over 50 years
Haigerloch in the Zollernalb district (state of Baden-Württemberg) is one of the most impressive small towns in southern Germany. The old town is spread over several levels of a narrow bend in the Eyach river — from the rock town at the bottom of the valley to the high-lying Hohenzollern Castle with its castle church and the Baroque St. Anne's Church on the opposite rocky spur. This setting is unique in Europe and has provided the backdrop for the castle concert series since the early 1970s.
Since its founding, the Castle Concerts have been organized by the Friends of the Haigerloch Castle Concerts Association together with the city administration and the Ludwigsburg Festival. The programming alternates between early Baroque chamber music, classical string quartets, modern wind and saxophone ensembles, and occasional special concerts with historical instruments — always with a focus on top ensembles from southern Germany and Switzerland.
The 2026 season includes three concerts between June and September:
St. Anne's Church (Rock Church) is a late Baroque pilgrimage church on a rocky spur, built between 1753 and 1755 according to plans by Johann Michael Fischer — one of the most important church architects of South German Baroque. The acoustics of the church with its high vaults are legendary. The Prince's Hall Bad Imnau is located in the former spa town of Bad Imnau (a district of Haigerloch) and is a Neo-Baroque hall with excellent acoustics for chamber music.
Anyone attending a castle concert in the summer should extend their weekend: Haigerloch is not only the rock town with its castle, St. Anne's Church, and the Atomic Cellar Museum (where the experimental setups of German uranium research were stored in 1944/45), but also a starting point for hikes along the Eyach river and on the Hohenzollern Jura Castle Trail.
The 2026 season of the Haigerloch Castle Concerts spans from the beginning of summer to early autumn. The series opens on June 21 with the Duo Anton Kölz, followed a week later (June 28) by the ProFive Wind Ensemble — both concerts in the late Baroque St. Anne's Church by Johann Michael Fischer. The finale on September 20 features the renowned Arcis Saxophone Quartet in the Prince's Hall Bad Imnau, in cooperation with the Ludwigsburg Festival.
