Day of the Sea Rescuers at the Pier
The Wustrower Seebrückenfest is organized by the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) and focuses on the work of the sea rescuers. It takes place annually on the last Saturday in August at the Wustrow pier, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Wustrow Sea Rescue Station is one of the oldest stations along the German Baltic Sea coast. During the Seebrückenfest, it opens its doors: visitors can learn about the voluntary work of the rescue teams and experience the rescue boat up close. Guided tours provide insight into what sea rescue means in everyday life.
The highlight of the festival is a rescue exercise on the Baltic Sea, which takes place around 2 p.m. The sea rescuers impressively demonstrate how an operation at sea unfolds—a spectacle that draws thousands of spectators to the pier every year.
The festival is accompanied by a regional craft market and a cultural program around the recently renovated pier. Thus, the Seebrückenfest combines the appreciation of the sea rescuers with a relaxing family outing on the Baltic Sea. Wustrow on the Fischland peninsula is part of the Vorpommern-Rügen district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
On August 29, 2026, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service will host the Wustrow Pier Festival—from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the pier.
The Wustrow Sea Rescue Station will open its doors, allowing visitors to experience the rescue boat and learn about the voluntary work. Around 2 p.m., the impressive rescue exercise on the Baltic Sea will take place. A regional craft market and a cultural program will accompany the festive day.
Admission is free. The DGzRS is funded exclusively by donations; donation opportunities are available on-site.
