About Schützenfest Andreasberg

The Sankt Andreasberg Schützenfest is the traditional summer event of the Sankt Andreasberg marksmen's association and an important date in the Oberharz marksmen's calendar. From Friday, July 31 to Sunday, August 2, 2026, the Schützenplatz in the Sankt Andreasberg district of the town of Braunlage will be transformed into a festive marksmen's setting. Sankt Andreasberg is a historic mining town in the Upper Harz with its own mining and club history and has belonged to the town of Braunlage since the 2011 municipal reform. The Schützenfest follows the classic three-day program with an opening evening, king's shooting, marksmen's mass, festival parade, dance evening, morning pint, and proclamation of the marksmen's king. Organized by the Sankt Andreasberg marksmen's association and embedded in the Oberharzer Schützenbund, the festival is a living example of the mining town's festival culture and a unifying event for the Andreasberg population and friendly clubs from other Oberharz mining towns.

Sankt Andreasberg — Historic Mining Town in the Upper Harz

Sankt Andreasberg is one of the historic mining towns of the Upper Harz and has belonged to the town of Braunlage since the 2011 municipal reform. For centuries, the mining town was an important center of silver mining and is now a state-recognized health resort and a popular hiking destination. The club life in Sankt Andreasberg is vibrant — the marksmen's club is one of the central club institutions, and the Schützenfest is an important date in the annual calendar.

Three Days of Festivities at the Turn of July/August

The 2026 Schützenfest spans three days and falls at the turn of July to August. This timing — shortly after the Braunlage and Lautenthal Schützenfeste — is part of the Oberharz Schützenfest calendar distributed throughout the summer. This allows friendly clubs to attend each other's festivals.

Oberharzer Schützenbund

The Sankt Andreasberg marksmen's association is part of the Oberharzer Schützenbund — the umbrella organization of the historic Oberharz marksmen's clubs. Friendly clubs from Clausthal, Zellerfeld, Lautenthal, and other Oberharz towns are invited to the festival parade, giving the event a special regional character.

Classic Schützenfest Program

The program follows the proven structure of a North German Schützenfest: festive opening evening on Friday, king's shooting, marksmen's mass or festival service, festival parade through Sankt Andreasberg, and dance evening on Saturday, morning pint, family activities, and proclamation of the new marksmen's king on Sunday.

Mining Town Atmosphere with Summer Festival Spirit

The unique atmosphere of the Oberharz mining town — with its wooden houses, mining history, and special mountain location — gives the Schützenfest a distinctive character. In midsummer, this mining town atmosphere is complemented by a genuine summer festival spirit and a relaxed, convivial mood in the festival tent.

Schützenfest Andreasberg — edition 2026

From July 31 to August 2, 2026, the Sankt Andreasberg marksmen's association will host its traditional Schützenfest at the Schützenplatz in the Sankt Andreasberg district of Braunlage. Three days of festivities with an opening evening, king's shooting, marksmen's mass, festival parade, dance evening, morning pint, and proclamation of the new marksmen's king form the classic program. Friendly clubs of the Oberharzer Schützenbund are expected for the festival parade.

Schützenfest in the Oberharz Mining Town

The 2026 edition continues the tradition of the Sankt Andreasberg marksmen's association. The festival combines shooting tradition with mining town atmosphere and midsummer spirit.
