Patronal festival of the Volunteer Fire Brigade in honor of Saint Florian
Saint Florian of Lorch, who was drowned in the Enns in the year 304, has been considered the patron saint against conflagrations and thus of the fire brigades since the Middle Ages. His feast day, May 4th, is celebrated by many volunteer fire brigades in the predominantly Catholic regions of Bavaria with a Floriansfest. In Baar-Ebenhausen in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, both the FFW Baar and the FFW Ebenhausen maintain this tradition.
The Floriansfest of the FFW Ebenhausen begins with a festive church service in St. Martin's parish church in Ebenhausen, in which active firefighters in uniform and the association's banners participate. The pastor and the fire chief offer blessings for the helpers, and a church choir or the town band accompanies the liturgy. After the service, the congregation processes to the fire station.
The secular part of the festival begins at the fire station on Brückenstraße: tapping of the first keg, morning pint with brass music, grilled items (Steckerlfisch, Hendl, Bratwürste), coffee, and cake. The "Floriani-Jünger" (followers of Florian) from neighboring brigades – including the FFW Baar, FFW Hohenwart, and other brigades from the district – visit with their association banners. In the afternoon, demonstrations by the youth fire brigade and vehicle viewings are often on the program, making the festival attractive for families as well.
In recent years, the Floriansfests of the two brigades in Baar-Ebenhausen have always taken place on different Sundays in May or June, allowing firefighters from both districts to visit each other. Thus, the patronal festival becomes an important date for club life and the cohesion of the village community.
The 2026 Floriansfest of the Ebenhausen Volunteer Fire Brigade is scheduled for Sunday, June 14, 2026. The event begins with a festive church service in St. Martin's parish church at 10:00 AM, attended by active firefighters with their association banners, honoring Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters.
Afterwards, the congregation will process to the fire station on Brückenstraße 15, where the morning pint with brass music will begin. Throughout the day, the festival catering and grill station will offer Bavarian specialties, and vehicle viewings and demonstrations by the youth fire brigade are planned.
Baar-Ebenhausen is located in the district of Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Upper Bavaria. By car via the A9 (Manching exit) and the B16. By train to Pfaffenhofen, then by bus.
Admission to the festive church service and the festivities at the fire station is free.
