The Franconian wine festival on the Unterer Markt, concluding the Würzburg wine festival season
The Weinparade Würzburg is one of the most distinctive wine festivals in Bavaria. On the Unterer Marktplatz, framed by the baroque architecture of the Lower Franconian district capital, the Würzburg festival hosts serve over a hundred Franconian wines and sparkling wines by the glass. Unlike a classic Volksfest (traditional folk festival), the focus here is on quality: wines of all quality classes are served, from uncomplicated Silvaner Schoppen to lusciously sweet ice wine.
The Weinparade was founded in 2002 with the idea of making Franconian wines accessible by the glass in their full spectrum. Originally located on Paradeplatz, the festival moved to the Unterer Markt in 2008, where it has been firmly established ever since. The Weinparade is organized by the Würzburger Festwirte e.V. association, which unites five renowned catering businesses from the city under one roof.
Each of the participating businesses contributes its own menu, so the culinary offerings go far beyond what most wine festivals provide. The selection ranges from Franconian snacks to regional specialties and seasonal menus. The lunch service starts daily from 11 am, making the Weinparade a popular meeting point during the day as well.
Würzburg is the unofficial capital of Franconian wine and is located in the state of Bavaria, in a district-free city surrounded by the Würzburg district. The steep vineyards along the Main River, especially the Würzburger Stein, have shaped the city for centuries. The Weinparade traditionally marks the end of the Würzburg wine festival season, making it a final, atmospheric highlight in the Franconian wine year.
From August 27 to September 6, 2026, the Weinparade invites you to the Unterer Markt in Würzburg. It is open Sundays to Thursdays from 11 am to 11 pm, Fridays and Saturdays from 11 am to 11:30 pm; on the final day, September 6, the festival ends at 10 pm. Five Würzburg festival hosts will serve over a hundred Franconian wines and sparkling wines by the glass, complementing them with individual menus from their establishments. Themed evenings such as Pink Monday, Princess Day, Single Party, and Spritz Time add special highlights to the program.
Daily: Lunch service from 11 am, open serving of over 100 Franconian wines and sparkling wines of all quality levels.
Themed Evenings: Pink Monday (Rosé Evening), Princess Day, Single Party, and Spritz Time with wine cocktails.
Closing: Last festival day on September 6 until 10 pm.
Admission to the Weinparade is free. You pay per glass and dish directly to the festival hosts. Prices vary depending on the wine and quality level; a Schoppen of simple Franconian wines is within the usual festival range, while higher-quality varietals and ice wines are priced accordingly.
The Unterer Markt is located right in the heart of Würzburg's old town, just a few minutes' walk from the main train station and the Residenz. Travel by train and tram (stop Dom or Rathaus) is recommended, as parking in the city center is limited.
Admission is free; you pay per glass and dish directly to the festival hosts.
