Nine concerts spanning Belcanto, folk song, and pop in the castles of Franconia
The DEIN LIED Festival of Song is not a classic festival with a concentrated weekend, but a concert series running over seven months — from the end of April to the beginning of November. Seven venues in the district of Neustadt a.d.Aisch-Bad Windsheim are used: Schloss Walkershofen near Obernzenn (opening), Schloss Frankenberg near Weigenheim, the Alte Bauhof in Bad Windsheim, the Kaffeehaus Dachsbach, the Freilandmuseum Bad Windsheim, the Church of St. Bonifaz Bad Windsheim, the Weingut Schürmer in Ipsheim, and the Arvena Reichsstadt Hotel Bad Windsheim.
In terms of content, DEIN LIED focuses on the song as a genre — in an unusually broad definition: from Italian Belcanto (art singing from the 18th/19th century) and Italian-German folk song tradition to opera arias and song galas (Mozart, Verdi, Wagner), sacred concerts, the Comedian Harmonists repertoire, and finally pop, songwriter, and jazz. The finale is a tribute to Leonard Cohen in November.
The charm of the festival lies in the choice of venues. The castles of Walkershofen and Frankenberg are privately run noble residences with baroque halls and intimate acoustics. The Alte Bauhof in Bad Windsheim is a restored historic farm building, the Kaffeehaus Dachsbach a lovingly managed cultural venue with Viennese flair. The Freilandmuseum offers open-air concerts among historic farmhouses. This diversity of locations gives the festival its unmistakable profile.
DEIN LIED is not a large festival, but a curated series with a manageable hall size (mostly 80–250 seats per concert). This allows for encounters between artists and the audience that would be unthinkable in large concert halls. The Festival Concert Pass (a €5 discount per ticket for four or more bookings) makes the program an attractive season subscription for song lovers from Franconia.
The 2026 season is programmatically broad: from classical Belcanto to songwriter pop, from promenade concerts at the Freilandmuseum to sacred concerts at St. Bonifaz. The festival emphasizes the diversity of the song genre and shows how this form of singing remains alive in different contexts and times.
Highlight at the opening: the program "History of Belcanto" on April 25 at Schloss Walkershofen near Obernzenn. The unique atmosphere of the baroque castles suits the intimacy of the song form — singer and pianist just a few meters from the audience.
