Large wine festival over two weekends in Deidesheim with the enthronement of the Wine Princess and Heimatabend at Weingut von Winning
Few Palatinate towns combine world-class wines, medieval substance, and relaxed Palatinate conviviality as impressively as Deidesheim. When the Weinkerwe starts in August, all these elements come together: The town between the Palatinate Forest and the Rhine plain becomes the largest Palatinate wine stage — and that over two weekends.
The heart of the festival is Bahnhofstraße, which is closed for the duration of the Kerwe and becomes the Woigass. Here, the wine stands of the Deidesheim vintners line up, interspersed with small stages, snack stands, and family attractions. Those who turn off the Woigass into the small alleys will find open courtyards of the wineries, which in turn offer special events — from themed tastings to concerts.
Two fixed program points frame the Kerwe: On the opening Friday, the new Deidesheim Wine Princess is enthroned — a ritual that symbolizes the connection between wine culture, tradition, and the social representation of the Palatinate. On the last Tuesday, the Heimatabend takes place in the historic courtyard of Weingut von Winning: an atmospheric event with Palatinate dialect, music, and appreciation of the Kerwe tradition.
The Kerwe also includes classic folk festival elements: amusement rides for children and adults, shooting galleries, candy stalls, and a diverse music program with cover bands, dialect artists, acoustic sets, and DJs. Palatinate cuisine is omnipresent — Saumagen, Bratwurst, Leberknödel, Flammkuchen, Pfälzer Wurstsalat — and of course the Schorle as the Palatinate's favorite drink.
The 2026 edition of the Deidesheimer Weinkerwe follows the proven model of two festival weekends with an interruption. The first weekend starts on Friday, August 7, with the opening and enthronement of the Wine Princess and ends on Tuesday, August 11, with the classic Kerwemontag/Kerwedienstag. After a short break, the second weekend follows from August 14 to 18, with the Heimatabend as the grand finale at Weingut von Winning.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in the summer on the website of the city of Deidesheim.
Exact band times, special events, and tickets for the Heimatabend will be announced via the official channels of the city of Deidesheim.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Wines, food, and amusement rides are paid for individually. Special tickets for the Heimatabend are offered separately.
First weekend: August 7–11, 2026. Second weekend: August 14–18, 2026.
