Five Days of Inner-City Festival

Öhringen, with just under 25,000 inhabitants, is the main town of the Hohenlohe district and celebrates one of the region's most traditional city festivals with the Öhringer Woche. From Thursday, April 30 to Monday, May 4, 2026, the historic city center around the market square and the castle courtyard will be transformed into a festival ground. The organizers are the Öhringen City Marketing Association and the Öhringer Heimatverein 1873 e.V. The program combines customs, history, family culture, and shopping into five special days — in 2026, on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Öhringen State Garden Show.

Thursday, April 30 — Children's Day

The festival week kicks off with Children's Day on April 30. Mayor Patrick Wegener will open the festival week at 2:00 PM together with kindergarten children, who will plant colorful spring flowers in front of the castle. An afternoon for children themed "Apprentice Gardeners" with craft stations, fairy tale hours, children's theater, and hands-on activities will delight the youngest visitors. Music, a bouncy castle, ice cream, and children's cocktails will round off the day.

Friday, May 1 — Customs Under the Guild Tree

May Day begins with a special ceremony: "Customs Under the Guild Tree" in the market square, organized by the Öhringer Heimatverein 1873 e.V., one of the oldest heritage associations in Southern Germany. From 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM, traditional crafts will be demonstrated — coats of arms of the historical guilds will be explained, and old craft gestures of goldsmiths, bakers, blacksmiths, and tailors will be shown. Gun salutes will open the day, and the heritage association will present its traditional costumes and dance folk dances. The day concludes with a concert by the Öhringen City Band in the castle courtyard.

Saturday, May 2 — Romans and Germans

Saturday is History Day. A Roman camp and a Germanic camp will be set up in the market square — reenactment groups from the Hohenlohe district and the region will demonstrate the daily life of these two cultures in the former Limes border area, where Öhringen was an important Roman settlement. Activities for children and families: magic tricks by Roman jugglers, treasure hunt for coins in the camp, archery with historical bows, traditional flatbread baking over an open fire, and spit-roast bread over the campfire. The reenactment camps will remain set up throughout the weekend.

Sunday, May 3 — Sunday Shopping

Sunday brings the Sunday shopping event: From 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM, the shops in the city center, the Ö-Center, and Steinsfeld will open their doors. The market square and adjacent streets will have reduced traffic, with market stalls offering spring goods and food trucks lining up. Special promotions from retailers, live music on the market stage, and the reenactment program from Saturday provide reasons for a long stroll through the city center.

Monday, May 4 — Guided Tours and Bike Rides

The festival week concludes with guided tours around Öhringen: themed city walks (children's city hike, costumed historical tour), castle garden tour, guided bike tour around Öhringen, and the fourth "City Dinner Tour" — a culinary tour through the city center's gastronomy. Tickets for the tours are available through the Öhringen Tourist Information.
