Three Advent weekends of Christmas magic in the Hohenlohe residence town
The Öhringen Christmas Market is one of the most traditional and atmospheric Advent events in the Hohenlohe district (state of Baden-Württemberg). Over three Advent weekends, the historic city center around Öhringen Castle, the Collegiate Church, and the market square transforms into a festively illuminated stage for mulled wine, Hohenlohe delicacies, and arts and crafts. The motto for 2026 — “Winter – Wonder – Christmas Glow” — says it all: the aim here is not just to shop, but to truly feel the spirit of Christmas.
What sets the Öhringen Christmas Market apart from many others is its unique historical backdrop. The Collegiate Church as a landmark, the Renaissance castle of the Princes of Hohenlohe, and the lovingly restored half-timbered facades of the market square form a setting that few cities can offer. As darkness falls, the buildings glow in the warm light of the Christmas illuminations – a sight that draws thousands of visitors from all over Baden-Württemberg to the Hohenlohe residence town every year.
Traditionally, there are open Sundays for shopping on the Advent Sundays – ideal for buying gifts right after a stroll through the market. Öhringen's local retailers complement the market stalls' offerings with special promotions and decorations in their shop windows.
The Hohenlohe district is one of the best-known culinary regions in Southern Germany. Hohenlohe pork, Boeuf de Hohenlohe, wines from the Kocher and Jagst valleys, and famous farm specialties can also be found at the Christmas market. This is the place to buy regional products directly from the producers.
From November 27 to December 20, 2026, the Öhringen Christmas Market will open its stalls for three Advent weekends. Under the motto “Winter – Wonder – Christmas Glow”, the market will take over the historic city center around the market square, the castle, and the collegiate church. Opening hours are Friday from 4 PM to 10 PM, Saturday from 12 PM to 10 PM, and Sunday from 12 PM to 8 PM. Stands selling mulled wine, festively decorated stalls with arts and crafts and gift ideas, Hohenlohe bratwurst, and the bakery with fresh wood-fired bread form the culinary backbone. For children, a steam train runs through a small fairy tale forest, and choirs and local music groups perform on stage. Open Sundays for shopping will complement the offerings on the Advent Sundays.
Öhringen is conveniently located on the A6 motorway (Heilbronn–Nuremberg). By train: Stadtbahn S4 from Heilbronn Hbf. Multi-storey car parks and parking spaces are available in the city center; travel by public transport is recommended on weekends.
Friday 4:00 PM–10:00 PM, Saturday 12:00 PM–10:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM–8:00 PM (on all three Advent weekends).
Free admission.
Plan a walk in the Hofgarten and a visit to the Stiftskirche. The Hohenlohe Tourist Association offers combined themed weeks with other Advent markets in the region (Schwäbisch Hall, Künzelsau).
