Over 25 years of tradition — 200 wines, 26 wineries from Hohenlohe and Heilbronn on the Marktplatz and in the Hofgarten
For over 25 years, the Hohenloher Weindorf has been the undisputed highlight of the Öhringen event calendar. For five days, the old town around the castle and Marktplatz transforms into a vibrant wine village, bringing together Hohenlohe and Heilbronn — two wine-growing regions that border each other geographically but traditionally have different focuses. In Öhringen, they come together for a nearly week-long joint showcase.
Around 200 selected wines and sparkling wines will be served — a selection ranging from classic Württemberg varieties like Trollinger, Lemberger, and Schwarzriesling to internationally acclaimed Rieslings and barrel-aged Spätburgunders. 26 wineries and cooperatives present their vintages — including small businesses with distinct profiles as well as large, internationally renowned houses like Weingärtner Heuchelberg and Württembergische Weingärtner-Zentralgenossenschaft. An ideal opportunity to directly compare top Württemberg producers over a weekend.
The venue is the Marktplatz with its Gothic collegiate church, the castle area around Hohenlohe Castle (one of Southern Germany's most important Renaissance castles), and the expansive Hofgarten — a historic palace park that is decorated with wine stands, fairy lights, and lounge areas during the festival weeks. The combination of Renaissance architecture and garden atmosphere makes the Weindorf one of Württemberg's most beautiful wine events.
Live bands play on the Marktplatz and in the castle courtyard from 5 PM onwards: cover bands, jazz combos, acoustic acts, Schlager singers. The music program is deliberately broad — from pop and rock on the weekend to jazz and swing on Sunday, and Schlager on the family evening.
A highlight of the Weindorf is the awarding of the Öhringer Weinschlüssel — an accolade with which the city of Öhringen annually honors a personality who has rendered outstanding service to regional wine culture or Hohenlohe identity. The presentation traditionally takes place on the opening evening and is a small, dignified ceremony between the city, the wineries, and the citizens.
Accompanying the wines, Hohenlohe specialties are served: Maultaschen made from Hällisches Landschwein pork, Vesper platters with Boxberg cheese and Hohenlohe ham, Flammkuchen, lamb skewers, classic pretzels. Those who want to follow the wine focus with something sweet will find a dedicated dessert corner in the Hofgarten with ice cream from Heimathof, Streusel cake, and pumpkin tart.
Öhringen is the district capital of the Hohenlohe district — a city of 24,000 inhabitants with a rich history, as it was the residence of the Hohenlohe-Öhringen family since the 17th century. The city is located on the edge of the Hohenlohe region, an area between Heilbronn and Schwäbisch Hall, characterized by rolling hills, vineyards, and medieval castles. You can reach Öhringen by train via the Hohenlohebahn from Heilbronn.
Take the Hohenlohebahn from Heilbronn Hbf to Öhringen, 30 min. By car, take the A 6 exit Öhringen. Parking garages in the city center — Park & Ride recommended during peak times.
