Apple wine festival with Franconian cheese specialties and brass music in the Vorspessart
Waldaschaff is a municipality in the district of Aschaffenburg, east of the city of Aschaffenburg, in the middle of the Vorspessart. Geographically and culturally, Waldaschaff is at an intersection: administered by Bavaria, but often linguistically and culinarily influenced by Hesse. This is also reflected in the name of the festival: "Öbbelwoi" is the Lower Franconian-Aschaffenburg pronunciation of the Hessian "Ebbelwoi" (apple wine) – a clear commitment to the culinary heritage of the region.
Apple wine has been produced in the Aschaffenburg region for centuries. Unlike beer, it is typically Franconian-Hessian, with its own mythology, its own glass (the "Geripptes" with the diamond engraving), and its own canon of recipes. The music club's festival brings together regional apple wine producers and focuses on this regional specialty – a remarkable format in a state where beer otherwise dominates all culinary stages.
Served with apple wine is cheese – in the classic Lower Franconian style: Handkäs mit Musik (marinated with onions, vinegar, oil), Bauernhandkäse, semi-hard cheese from regional farm dairies, accompanied by hearty farmer's bread with butter. A simple but effective combination that sets the festival apart culinarily from a pure club 'Schoppen' (drinking) event.
The organizer and main musical act is the Musikverein Waldaschaff 1972 e.V. Over the weekend, performances by the main orchestra, the youth band, and friendly brass bands from the Vorspessart and the Aschaffenburg region are scheduled. Classic Lower Franconian brass music, Upper Bavarian marches and polkas, and folk music pieces alternate.
The Musikerheim Waldaschaff on the outskirts of town (Helgenfeldstraße 8) offers the ideal infrastructure: a club house with an attached courtyard, which is equipped for the festival with beer benches, standing tables, and a stage. Celebrations take place outdoors in good weather, and indoors if it rains – an open-air character, but protected from the weather.

The exact program – performances by the main orchestra, the youth band, and friendly brass bands – will be published by the music club closer to the date at mv-waldaschaff.de.
