Atmospheric Christmas market in Pfarrgasse at Lebach's St. Marien parish church
The Adventsmarkt Lebach takes place around Pfarrgasse at the Catholic parish church St. Marien — and thus at one of the most beautiful spots in the city in the Saarlouis district. Traditionally, it takes place on the third weekend of Advent. The compact alley is ideal: everything is within walking distance, everything is clear, everything is authentically Saarländisch.
About 14 stallholders present handicrafts, gift ideas, Advent decorations, birdseed dumplings, and culinary specialties. The food is deliberately regional: Dibbelabbes (Saarland-style potato bake), Flammkuchen, Raclette, pea soup, homemade cookies, and baked apples. Accompanied by mulled wine, punch, children's punch, and hot chocolate. A tombola adds extra excitement.
The proximity to the parish church makes the market special. Trombone choirs, music associations, and church choirs perform — usually in the afternoon and early evening. The magic and participation show for children on Sunday afternoon is also popular. The highlight on the opening Saturday is the lighting of the third candle on the large Advent wreath in front of the church.
Lebach, with around 19,000 inhabitants, is one of the largest towns in the Saarlouis district. It is located in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park, about 25 kilometers north of Saarbrücken. The St. Marien parish church shapes the cityscape and, together with Pfarrgasse, forms the geographical and cultural center of the Advent market.
Anyone tired of large, commercial Christmas markets who is looking for gingerbread scents, mulled wine warmth, and trombone choir atmosphere in a manageable, family-friendly setting will be right at home here. The market is easily accessible and particularly family-friendly.
The 2026 Adventsmarkt in Lebach will follow the proven tradition: opening on the Saturday of the third Advent weekend with the lighting of the third candle on the Advent wreath, followed by a Sunday program with music and children's magic. The exact date in 2026 will likely be confirmed in autumn 2026 by the city of Lebach and the St. Marien parish.
The detailed program for 2026 will likely be published in November 2026. Based on experience, the following program points can be expected:
