Brass Music in the Vorspessart
The Blechschlacht is a gathering of several music bands from the Vorspessart, organized by the Musikverein Keilberg e.V. The venue is the Gasthof »Spessartruh« in the Steiger district of the municipality of Bessenbach (Aschaffenburg district, 09671), on the edge of the Spessart forest. The name »Blechschlacht« plays on the term brass music — »Blech« (brass) as a tongue-in-cheek term for the brass instruments, »Schlacht« (battle) as a playful allusion to the musical competition between the bands.
Club Landscape and Tradition
The Musikverein Keilberg belongs to the Vorspessart Brass Music Association and is one of the many brass bands that shape the musical life of this region. Bessenbach (Vereinshaus Keilberg, Hauptstrasse 32-34) is a Spessart village that, like many Lower Franconian communities, cultivates a very active club culture — music clubs, singing clubs, fire departments, heritage clubs. The Blechschlacht is one of the typical summer events with which these clubs maintain their camaraderie and musical exchange.
Open-Air on the Edge of the Spessart
The Gasthof »Spessartruh« is located on the edge of the Spessart forest on the heights above Bessenbach, in the Steiger district. The terrace with a view of the Aschaffenburg basin provides an atmospheric backdrop for the concerts. Catering with Lower Franconian specialties, beer, and wine accompany the music — a summer evening where Bavarian lifestyle and Lower Franconian brass music come together.
In the Musical Vorspessart
The Vorspessart, as a Lower Franconian landscape east of Aschaffenburg, is known for its dense club culture. In the Aschaffenburg district (Bavaria, 09671), music clubs are lined up like pearls on a string, each with its own festival tradition. The Blechschlacht is one of many such gatherings that structure the year in the Vorspessart — and which, for lovers of traditional brass music, mean a worthwhile detour into the Lower Franconian Spessart.
