Over 600 years of tradition — the grand folk festival and market on Dultplatz by Protzenweiher in the UNESCO World Heritage City
The Regensburger Dulten are among the oldest folk festival traditions in Southern Germany. As early as the Middle Ages, markets in Regensburg received privileges that led to the current format of the Maidult and Autumn Dult. Over 600 years of tradition are anchored in the events — the character is a mix of folk festival and market, which distinguishes the Dulten from pure folk festivals like Oktoberfest.
The venue is the Dultplatz by Protzenweiher in the Stadtamhof district, directly on the European Canal and north of the Danube. Reachable on foot from the city center via the historic Stone Bridge, the festival grounds are firmly integrated into the cityscape of the UNESCO World Heritage City. For the Dult, two large beer tents are set up here, along with a "Bierdorf" (beer village) with smaller heart-shaped pavilions and Steckerlfisch stands, amusement rides, and the historic market with showmen and market vendors.
The Maidult 2026 will be opened on Thursday, May 14th, with the traditional parade starting at 11:30 AM from the city center to Dultplatz. This will be followed by the official beer tapping in the festival tent. The program runs until Sunday, May 31st — almost three weeks of festival operations, framed by two weekends plus Ascension Day and Pentecost weekend, which are traditionally the busiest days.
Beer prices for the Maidult 2026 will be around €13.30 to €13.50 per liter — on par with comparable folk festivals in Southern Germany, but below the level of Oktoberfest and Cannstatter Wasen. Two large beer tents with live music daily, plus the Bierdorf with smaller pavilions. Showmen's offerings: Ferris wheel, carousels, roller coasters, children's rides.
Unlike pure folk festivals, the Maidult has an integrated market: showmen's stalls with sweets, confectionery, household items, tools, fashion, and handicrafts. Market vendors come from all over Southern Germany and shape the historic character of the event. The Warendult is open daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Thursday, May 14, 2026 — Opening parade starting at 11:30 AM from the city center to Dultplatz, followed by the official beer tapping in the main beer tent by the mayor.
The nearly three weeks of festival operations include several busy long weekends: Ascension Day (May 14/15), the two full weekends of May 16/17 and May 23/24, and the Pentecost weekend (May 23–25, Whit Monday = bridge day). It concludes on Sunday, May 31st.
