Lower Bavaria's only queer film festival with a short film competition and audience awards
The film series QUEER-Streifen was founded in 2011 by an association in Regensburg to create a platform for queer film culture in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. In a region without permanent LSBTIQ* film offerings, the festival has since become an annual major event for the queer community and the film-interested public between the Danube and the Bavarian Forest.
The venue is the Kinos im Andreasstadel — a traditional arthouse cinema on the right bank of the Danube in Regensburg-Stadtamhof. The venue shows arthouse programming year-round and dedicates itself entirely to the festival for the QUEER-Streifen week: several screens, international film prints, original versions with subtitles.
The hallmark of QUEER-Streifen is the short film competition with two awards: the Audience Award and the Jury Award. The selection usually includes 15–20 short films from Europe, North and South America, and Asia — it shows "humanity in its diversity" and provides a stage for filmmakers off the beaten track. Filmmakers can submit via FilmFreeway.
In addition to the short film blocks, international feature films from the most important queer festivals of the year are shown every evening — from Berlinale's Teddy section to Outfest Los Angeles. The award winners of QUEER-Streifen are regularly passed on to other QueerScope festivals later.
QUEER-Streifen is a member of QueerScope — Independent German Queer Film Festivals, a network of around 15 German queer film festivals that jointly curate programs and generate political visibility. The festival is also a member of the Bavarian Film Festival Association. Sponsors include the City of Regensburg and the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
The 14th edition of QUEER-Streifen takes place from October 22 to 28, 2026, at the Kinos im Andreasstadel. The program includes daily feature film and short film screenings, discussion panels with filmmakers, Q&A sessions, and an official opening and closing party.
The international short film competition with audience and jury awards is at the center. Submissions were possible via FilmFreeway until summer 2026. The final selection will be published on queer-streifen.de a few weeks before the festival.
