Summer city festival on Bismarckplatz, parallel to the Jahninselfest
The Bismarckplatzfest is a summer open-air city festival held on Bismarckplatz, one of the most beautiful squares in the Old Town of the independent city of Regensburg. The square, featuring the neoclassical Regensburg Theater and its burgher houses, provides an atmospheric backdrop for a weekend of music, gastronomy, and urban flair.
A special feature: The Bismarckplatzfest takes place simultaneously with the Jahninselfest, the open-air event on the nearby Jahninsel island on the Danube. This creates a double festival weekend in June, allowing visitors to move between the urban square festival and the island festival, which features live bands – a concentrated slice of Regensburg's summer culture.
On Bismarckplatz, stage music, food stalls, and gastronomic offerings create a festive atmosphere. The festival is part of Regensburg's recurring event highlights and fits into a busy summer calendar that also includes Welterbetag (World Heritage Day), Campusfest, and Schlossgarten Open Air.
Regensburg, whose Old Town with Stadtamhof is a UNESCO World Heritage site, is one of Germany's best-preserved medieval cities and the cultural center of the Upper Palatinate. The Bismarckplatzfest brings this vibrant urban culture to early summer and is a popular meeting point for families, students, and guests from the region.
The 2026 edition of the Bismarckplatzfest will take place from Friday, June 5, to Sunday, June 7, 2026, on Bismarckplatz in Regensburg's Old Town. During the festival days, stage music, food stalls, and gastronomic offerings will create a summery festive atmosphere against the backdrop of the theater and burgher houses. Concurrently, the Jahninselfest will be held on the nearby Jahninsel from June 5 to 6, creating a double festival weekend. Admission is free. The festival is part of Regensburg's recurring event highlights.
Regensburg is easily accessible via the A3/A93 motorways and as a railway hub. Bismarckplatz is centrally located in the Old Town, within walking distance of the main train station. Travel by public transport/train is recommended.
Admission is free; food and drinks are available on-site.
The Jahninselfest on Jahninsel takes place concurrently – visiting both festivals is worthwhile.
