Open-air festival on the Jahninsel beneath the Steinerne Brücke
The Jahninselfest takes place on the Jahninsel — a narrow island in the middle of the Danube, directly beneath the Steinerne Brücke, one of Europe's most important medieval bridge structures and part of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Regensburg's Old Town. The stage is set in the bridge's shadow, with the Danube flowing past on both sides — creating one of Bavaria's most atmospheric concert backdrops.
The festival's musical profile is clear: alternative rock music beyond the mainstream. Rock, Punk, Hardcore, Pop-Rock, and Ska-Punk dominate the lineup, with occasional hip-hop and indie acts. The bands come from the Regensburg and Bavarian scene, featuring national headliners from German-speaking countries. In the past, bands like Rantanplan, Antilopen Gang, The Yoohoos, Johnny Firebird, Lester, and Opiliones have performed — a mix of established stars and local acts.
In addition to the main stage, there is a small arts stage that offers comedy, circus arts, juggling, improvisation theater, and open-mic slots on Saturday afternoon and evening. This second performance format also makes the Jahninselfest accessible to families who are not looking for continuous rock music, and it helps manage the crowds at the main stage.
The festival is organized by the non-profit association Scants of Grace e.V. — entirely on a voluntary basis, without any commercial backing. The association is sustained by membership fees, supporting partners, and revenue from festival tickets and bar sales. This keeps ticket prices low and maintains the festival's family-friendly character.
Regensburg is one of southern Germany's most important medieval cities; the Old Town with Stadtamhof was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006. The Steinerne Brücke (construction began in 1135) and the Jahninsel are part of this World Heritage ensemble. A concert on the island is therefore a special experience, both culturally and atmospherically — open-air music in front of a 900-year-old bridge, with the Danube flowing right beneath your feet.
The 2026 edition is confirmed by the City of Regensburg in its event calendar (regensburg.de/veranstaltungen/detail/588918). The festival website jahninselfest.de simultaneously confirms: pre-sale is ongoing, ticket shop at tickets.jahninselfest.de is open. The festival duration is compressed into two days (previously sometimes three days) — a format clearly focused on two intensive evenings.
The full lineup will be published closer to the date on jahninselfest.de/lineup. Based on experience, five to seven bands will perform per day, with set lengths between 30 and 60 minutes.
The named band lineup for 2026 will be gradually released before the festival (announcements in May 2026 on the festival website and Instagram). Based on experience, bands from Regensburg, Nuremberg, Munich, Hamburg, and Berlin will perform, in a mix of established headliners and local acts.
Regensburg is located on the ICE high-speed train route between Munich and Berlin. It's a 15-minute walk from the main train station to the Steinerne Brücke through the Old Town. By car, take the A3 (exit Regensburg-Universität) and A93. Parking is available in the city center underground garages (St.-Klara-Garage, Petersweg) — a 5-minute walk from the Jahninsel.
From the Old Town side, cross the Steinerne Brücke and take the branching stairs down to the island. From Stadtamhof, cross the Eiserne Brücke. Accessibility is limited — inquiries via the festival website are recommended.
Advance sales are available at tickets.jahninselfest.de. Day ticket for Friday, day ticket for Saturday, festival pass for both days. Family tickets are available. On-site box office if not sold out.
