The traditional folk festival of Waren on Germany's largest inland lake
The Müritzfest is the traditional town festival of Waren (Müritz) in the Mecklenburg Lake District. It takes place every year on the second weekend in July and is one of the largest folk festivals in the region. The venue is the old town between the Müritzeum nature experience center, the historic alleys, and the festival grounds.
The festival's history dates back to 1954, when the first real folk festival was celebrated in Waren. Over the decades, this beginning developed into today's Müritzfest, which is firmly anchored in the town's calendar. In 2025, the festival was celebrated for the 70th time.
Highlights of the Müritzfest every year are the fireworks on Friday evening and the grand parade on Saturday afternoon, which enlivens the old town with historical and thematic contributions. In addition, there is stage music, market activities with numerous stalls, and amusement rides for the whole family. The festival extends throughout the entire city center and creates a lively atmosphere for three days.
The Müritzfest explicitly sees itself as a festival of the town community – a festival by Waren residents for Waren residents and their guests. It is organized by the Waren City Center Association. Free admission makes the festival an open meeting place for locals and holidaymakers on the Müritz.
