Five days of music, flea market, and enjoyment around the Kochbrunnen
The Kranzplatzfest is one of the most popular street festivals in Hesse's state capital. For over thirty years, it has traditionally taken place around Ascension Day on the Kranzplatz – where the steaming Kochbrunnen (cooking spring) bubbles, reminiscent of Wiesbaden's ancient tradition as a spa town. Even the Romans appreciated the hot thermal springs at this location, making the square one of the most historic in the city.
With over 30 years of history, the Kranzplatzfest has earned a reputation as a carefully curated music festival. Rock, pop, jazz, soul, reggae, Latin, and electronic music alternate on two stages – always with a focus on local and regional bands from the Rhine-Main area. The mix appeals to an audience of all ages: families, students from the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences, professionals after work, and visitors from out of town all find their place.
The festival includes a flea market with bric-a-brac and collector stalls, which draws crowds to the square, especially on weekend days. The surrounding restaurants open their outdoor seating areas and complement the on-site stalls with international cuisine – from Hessian classics to Mediterranean and Asian specialties. Admission is free throughout the entire festival grounds.
What sets the Kranzplatzfest apart is the close spatial connection between the stages, the spring, and the historic buildings. The octagonal Kochbrunnen, framed by paved paths, forms the natural center of the festival. The monumental fountain colonnade and the spa villa architecture of the spa district provide an urban backdrop to the event – a setting found nowhere else in Hesse.
Wiesbaden is easily accessible by car, train, and bus. Due to limited parking in the city center, the organizers recommend using public transport: Bus lines 1 and 8 stop very close to Kranzplatz.
The 2026 edition traditionally falls on Ascension Day and the following weekend. The organizers have confirmed 18 acts – a mix of established artists like Capones and Mallet and local bands like Café Bossa, Los 4 Del Son, and the Urban Club Band. The music program alternates between the main stage and a smaller stage; attendees can stroll across the square between sets, browse the flea market, or take a break at one of the food stalls.
Further program details, individual set times, and stage changes will be published daily on kranzplatzfest-wiesbaden.de.
